You can actually replace the PTO seals on many models without removing the PTO shaft. As described in the video- we removed the PTO assembly because the tractor we were working on had a wear collar and you have to remove the shaft to replace that. The 1700 does not have a wear collar which is good and bad. Good that you don't need to remove the PTO shaft to replace it. Bad because it does not have one and any wear that happens is to the PTO shaft itself.

On the 1700/2000 just remove the snap ring and run a drywall screw into the face of the seal and pull it out.

Luckily the 1700 and 2000 have wear coats practically everywhere else!

How often does the actual shaft get worn out? Really not wanting to dissemble that if I don't have to haha!

It would only rarely happen and probably only once in a tractors life to be that bad. And most likely would only occur after many thousands of hours of the pto running.

Got it, thanks! Well I took it down to our land to make some food plots and the temp guage I installed kept climbing to 220 after going down our road. So it shut it down and loaded it back on the trailer. Where do I start and what's the easiest way to fix this permanently? I was thinking order new radiator and water pump kit. We live too far away to get all the way down there and waste a trip.

I'll add that the radiator has a couple pin hole leaks and looks pretty rough.
