maybe you have something in the line from the bowl to the pump?

If you have checked the inline screen (inside the banjo bolt) beneath the primer pump that Chip previously mentioned the next thing I would do was disconnect the line at the injection pump and pump the primer, if you dont get good flow work your way back until you find the clog. The screen in my Kama has caught a lot of garbage during my fuel problems. Mine would run for a while then bog down and shut off because rust flecks would clog the intake of the sediment bowl and cause it to lose the little bit of gravity feed pressure it had. It would look as if it had fuel because the bowl would fill up but it was sort of like holding your finger over the end of a straw that's filled with water it will stay in the tube until you break the suction on the top end.

My 284 had the same problem after I cleaned out the sediment bowl. It would only run for a few minutes after pumping the fuel filter full of fuel. The problem turned out to be the sediment bowl was not making a good seal and air was getting sucked in. I never saw any air bubbles in the bowl and the because it was getting in at the large screw cap on top. The final fix was to order a whole new sediment bowl assembly. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You should be able to pump the primer and keep the tractor running,if not the problem is after the injector pump.If you pump the primer while it's running and it will stay running, you are not getting enough fuel to the pump.so look at the ubber fuel line, tank, sediment bowl, pettcock. It should be a minor fix, you just need to pin point the area.

Hey Matt,

Jim has done a detailed explanation, on bleeding the air and cleaning the flowing system. This is over in the Chinese Tractor Owners Club.

It may just have air or a clog, at some point in the fuel delivery. Here is the posts address:

Hope this helps, and also, we have several other informational subjects, and many with detailed pictures, compliments of our members there.

We are inviting everybody, that Owns A Chinese Tractor, to Join Our Club. As well as Dealers, and Parts Suppliers for Chinese Tractors. Owners Helping Owners,,, That Is What We Are About....

Have a nice day,

Guys,
Thanks for all of the advice!! I won't be back at the farm untill next weekend. Sunday's my first weding anniversary. If I want to have a second anniversary, I can't spend my first at the farm. I will let you all know what happens.

After hours on the phone and two trips to the store and still not being able to get a manual, I stopped by Northern Monday evening. The sales guy was new and really wanted to help. He took down my name, address, and phone and said he'd see what he could do. Last night UPS delivered a new manual...free of charge. Gotta love the new guy. He has earned my business.

Joe,
I check out the club yesterday and joined. Looks like a good one. Thank You!!

Hi! I am one of Matt's friends who took the 2.5hr drive to do all of this monkeying on this thing. I just wanted to chime in on some of the things that were done in the in-betweens:

1. we tried having the cap open and closed throughout this process
2. all of the lines were blown out with compressed air to rule out blockage.
3. The petcock was determined to be off when horizontal, but we are not completely sure which setting was 'Prime' and 'Run'
4. we did the 'pump 4 times and release the air' priming that was mentioned in the owners manual several times to expel all of the air in the tank-to-pump section of the fuel system.

We also checked the sediment bowl for tightness and flow. we could not confirm in any way where there was air entering the system, but it seemed like that was the culprit.

Someone had mentioned that they had to replace the bowl - how did you identify that to be the problem? Also, what would confirm a bad "fuel pump" (or whatever it's called on a Chinese diesel tractor).

Thanks for all the help!
Corey

Nobody mention dumping the fuel. I had several situtation where it was bad fuel. I hope you dumped the fuel after it set up this long and even if you did try get some fuel else where and put it in. Might just be water in the fuel. If you run it out on the ground can you see water bulbs in it?

Hey guys,

Again, thank you for all of your input. I have trailered my chinese beauty home so that I would have all of my tools and all of my buddies at my disposal. After doing everything listed, we worked backwards from the injector to the tank. What we finaly discovered was a partial blockage in the fuel line from the sediment bowl to the primer pump. 90psi would blow through it, but fuel would not. We disconnected the banjo bolt at the primer and the screen filter was clean. However, when we opened the petcock, nothing came through the fuel line. The solution was a coat hanger straitened out and pushed through the line. Black crud came through the line and when we blew it out, a black booger came shooting out. I don't know where it came from, seeing as how the sediment bowl was clean as was the screen on the banjo bolt. It doesn't matter at this point. All that matters is that she runs now. One more time....THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!

Matt
