I showed my Wife the post with your # and she said" My god he's been at this for a while". Her # is in the 5s. She works for kegler brown.

Yes, I have been at it a while. I was admitted to practice before the US PTO 34 years ago.

It must be interesting being married to a patent lawyer (no self-promotion intended).

I kinda like Igor maybe I'll use it.

;-)

=============

In Ventrac news, we had about an inch of snow overnight.... enough to make climbing the final hill a challenge to our rear-wheel-drive 3-series autos if they are not sporting chains.

My wife had an appointment late in the morning, so she asked me to brush off the driveway. Horace Rumpole described his spouse as She Who Must Be Obeyed. I complied with the request. I brushed off our elderly neighbors' driveway while I was at it. The broom is the perfect implement for such jobs. I am very glad that I got it.

The hour meter just struck 11, by the way. How time flies when you are having fun!

My friends keep talking about my new toy. I keep telling them that it is a tool, not a toy... a serious machine for serious work! But I derive great enjoyment out of using it.

Now, I am hoping for some some real snow, so that I can put the snow blower through its paces.

Maybe I should make sacrifices to Skathi, Khione, Angerona, and Cailleach Bheur... not necessarily in that order of importance.

John, You will not have any problems with the snow blower. We had 2 snow storms here (2010) that were 2' each and the Ventrac had no problem with either of them. :D  I did over 1/2 mile to the main road and 9 neighbors driveways. Our road is "state maintained", but it is last on their list when they have other roads to clear. Snow 2010.jpgFebSnow1.jpg

You are 2 tough old goats ! Why do you not have a cab on those machines ? I know fresh air is good , but geesh .

There are a few reasons that I don't have a cab - 1. I ordered my shed before I got the Ventrac and the door does not have a tall enough opening for the strobe (I removed that from the top) or a cab. {I've been too lazy to rebuild the front of the shed and make a larger and taller door} 2. I use the tractor for too many different jobs and the cab would only go on in winter when it is snowing. 3. I grew up 60 miles south of Buffalo, NY and cold is not a big issue. 3. I don't like the cramped feel of the Ventrac cab.

The cab raises the Center of Gravity of the tractor, thus reducing the maximum slope that the tractor can safely handle.

Removing the cab requires a sturdy hoist mounted at a fair height, or a mini-crane, and the undoing and redoing of coolant hoses, so removal is not a trivial exercise if one wants to take the cab off for the Summer. And then one would need to store it properly.

The cab is not inexpensive.

Further Progress on the Garage Reorganization

Now there's room for diesel-fuel cans.

I had not mentioned the higher center of gravity and that is a major concern on this property.
I may get a sun shade / rain & snow cover when I have raised my shed door opening, but I won't want anything too heavy. I don't want anything on the tractor that would require a hoist or changing hoses. If I had all the $ in the world - I might have one summer and one winter Ventrac !
The cost of the cab was also a concern and I never even priced it.
