Frank,
I live in Pa and we had trouble with flying squirrels when we first moved into our house - it sat empty for about 2 years prior. We hired a guy that set rat traps baited with peanut butter and trapped 27 squirrels total. He looked and could not see how they got in. The mystery was solved when we put on a new roof. The squirrels got in by going underneath the ridge cap shingles on one end of the roof. From inside the attic you could not see daylight because the shingles covered the gap but they could wiggle their way in somehow. Look at your roof as maybe this is how they gain entry to the house. Good luck!

I have a post & beam house, with 4' x 8' panels attached to the outside... They're pre-insulated with 10" of white styrofoam, faced with plywood on the outside and sheetrock on the inside. Cedar shingles cover the exterior, over Tyvek fabric.

I'm now seeing white styrofoam beads all over the outside of one section of the roof; it seems some critter has decided to move in. I think it's a flying squirrel, but that's just an educated guess. Either that or a red squirrel, but it seems most active at night. It got in through a small gap in the cedar shingle siding.

I used the FEL on the tractor to get my ladder up there --since it was a bit short-- and have, for lack of any other ideas at the moment, stuffed a "Bounce" drier sheet into the smaller of two openings, leaving the larger hole unobstructed. I'm hoping the smell may drive it out like it has done to the mice who love my tractor, but....

Anyone have any other suggestions before this thing removes all my R-39 insulation?

See if the critter likes Banana Shakes..... Expanding foam will "cure" him".

Rodents are very good at finding holes/gaps and gnawing through wood and in this case, through the EPS (styrofoam) or SIP. Rodents love insulation because it keeps them warm and sheltered.

I have mice living in my ATV somewhere - stinks when the engine gets hot! I read in anther thread that Bounce fabric sheets will keep them away. Next time I can I will give them a try. Anyone have a positive experience with these fabric softner sheets?

On my Motorhome forum, some love them and others claim they make their nest out of them. I use peppermint oil and Dcon, which I know they eat and die, but not sure what works to keep them away.

Try tobe sure you lift up all covers, hoods and take out air filter when not using the ATV. They like closed areas to nest and keep warm.

I learned to remove seat and covers when I raised the seat the first time and found a whole next underneath! I haven't found their last next though. I'll give pepermint oil and decon a try - thanks.

Do you have a OSB wood SIP roof?

I am thinking of getting a SIP roof but instead of wood the SIP will be metal. This way nothing can chew through the skin as the skin is metal.
