Are those lights mounted by a bolt going through the ROPS? Did the dealer drill those holes or where they factory drilled?

I believe they were drilled by the dealer. I looked at them when I got the tractor and I'm not worried at all about them weakening the ROPS.

Hi Pete,

Ya, I'm hoping that garden plot will be big enough /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif. This is our first year at the house with the grass/garden etc. Last year I was doing too much lawn setup etc and a garden was out of the question. We intend to grow potatoes, green and yellow beans, peas, carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, onions, pumpkins and some corn (this last one is just for the kids because it isn't likely to grow too well).

I am anticipating deer problems for sure and I'm planning on putting a temporary mesh fence up around the garden once it is seeded. They have been very bold this year and have even removed a pansy from my wife's pot on the front sidewalk. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif I have a more permanent plan in mind for protecting the garden...but that's a longer story.

Good luck, Kevin! I live on a hillside in northern New England, so most of the soil is down in the valley below. I have about two inches of decent soil on top of a foot of sandy/clay on top of solid granite ledge in most places. Plus, given the latitude and elevation my growing season is pretty short. As a matter of fact, we got an inch of snow yesterday and the frost danger won't pass till around the first of June. On the other end of the season we can count on that first hard frost anytime after Sept 1st. As you can imagine, it limits our crop selection. The deer have been terrible in recent years, killing fruit trees, blueberry bushes and as much of the garden as they can reach. An old farmer taught me a new trick over the winter...this year I'll plant hot peppers between the crops. He claims the smell sends them scampering away!

The kind of "unwritten rule" in our neck of the woods is that the May long weekend should be safe for planting seed. If you put out bedding plants you need to watch the frost warnings and cover the plants if it looks like it will freeze. I'm really unsure what kind of damage to expect from the deer. I may be back re-reading all the "darn deer" threads that have gone on here /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif. I will certainly keep the hot pepper thing in mind. I like hot peppers anyway, so that may be a good excuse to grow them /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.
