TSC wanted like $650-700.... I'm thinking that one could be made for under $300... I'll have to swing down and check out that PTO idea. That sounds a little better driving a pump than working off the small flow my JD has. But the drawback would be needing almost an entire log splitter - the engine? hmm.. decisions decisions...

after several years of splitting alot of wood i would recommend
a stand alone unit if your 2305 has a loader then you can lift
the larger pieces onto the loader or position them alot easier
than your back. again just a opinion.

I agree,go with a stand alone unit. lets see, $700 TSC 3pt splitter, PTO pump $350, tank, hoses and filter $200 at least. The 22 ton huskee, stand alone $1049.
I used the loader all the time when I'm splitting wood.

Well, I could buy trailered splitter but the room it takes up, basically a 4x8 space, would be unacceptable to me. And unless it could be disguised as a weeping cherry tree, it would make an ugly lawn ornament:eek:

I enjoy splitting wood myself, sort of a fall hobby for me... I would split logs right next to my pile, so loader is not my concern. As for lifting? I cut cherry and oak only, and many in the 20-24"+ diameter range. Vertical is the ONLY way I'd split 3PT or not.... I need my back Mon-Fri!!!

You're burning cherry? I thought people sold cherry...

When I thought about putting cherry cabinets in my new house I wished I had my own cherry tree!

Yeah really. If he saw what cherry fetches as lumber on the market down here he would be buying a WoodMizer instead of a log splitter ;)

As a carpenter, and part-time cabinetmaker, I know cherry well.. Here in SW pa, Cherry & Oak make up 90% of the timber....
Money from cherry would make me happy--, but burning it keeps me warm!:)

I love burning the cherry that I get around here in SW PA. Oak and cherry are my two favorites, but if someone calls me with another kind of tree I wont refuse it. I love the way locust burns, dont love anything else about it.
