I have had the tractor about 3 days and used it 3 hours so far. Today I started tilling and got about 1 acre done when I noticed the
tractor making odd noises and then I lost all hydro power. After all hydro was lost (Steering, Loader, 3point and drive) all odd noises are gone, did the pump fail? Where should I start?

I would start at the dealer where you bought it.

Is the hyd fluid at the sight level?

From the description and explanation, I don't have much of a clue as to what it might be.
Sounds like you have only used it 3 hours, but someone else put the other 247 hours on it. Did you buy it from a dealer? Warranty with it?

What was the tilling being done? Roto tiller, or ground-engaging equipment with more stress and strain on the tractor?

Hope we can help.

I bought it from a private person, and I am tilling with a JD roto tiller. It worked just fine till the failure so I dont think it was a pre existing condition.

How does the fluid level look? Any visual signs of anything leaking? Don't do it while the engine is running as a leak can be very hazardous.

Check in with your Deere dealer and see if he will bring up the history of this tractor. They should have any previous record of work done, and also be able to check it out for something broken, which may be under warranty yet.

How does the engine couple with the hydro pump? Direct, belt ect?

Dug into it a bit and discovered the drive shaft right off of the flywheel was no longer connected. It appears a pin holding the u joint to the flywheel\driveshaft sheared.

Just got back from the dealer and I now have it on order, it looks like a pin inside a pin? Has anyone else had this problem?

Is this that tiny U joint that's directly beneath your feet when sitting on the tractor? I noted how small it looked when I was greasing things underneath there for the 50 hour service.

Keep us posted. Can you get a pic of the little monster?

Bingo, you can get a peak at it thru the little window by your left foot. It is quite hard to get to and I am not completely sure how it goes back togeather. The pic at the dealer shows a pin inside a pin?
I am no engineer but the drive shaft seems a bit small, maybe as thick as my thumb? And the pin 1/8- 3/16" diameter is suppose to hold back all the tourque /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
