The old 240 I got. Ive been trying to get started with no success. I replaced 1 injector. fuel systems been flushed with new fuel and filter. Lines have been bled of air up to the injectors. I cannot get it to fire off. Need some more tips or help diagnosing. Is there a way to check timing? Or could the intake be getting to much air? Would that make a difference? Looks like a gray smoke coming out the exhaust? It has compression, not sure how high of compression but has very noticable change when decompression lever is pulled.

Did this problem come on suddenly or has it sort of crept up on you? Any work been done on it lately besides injector change and filter? No reason for the timing to change unless injector pump has been removed. Impossible to get to much air. Is your battery good and getting good rpms when engaging the starter with compression release pulled? Diesels like rapid rotation in order to crank properly. Don't know the weather where you are but if 40 degrees or colder are you using the thermostart? Does the tractor have much blowby?

Pump is pumping. The problem as far as when it started, I'm not sure I just acquired the tractor. It has been parked a while. The guy I got it from said if water coming out the exhaust before it went down. He assumed head gasket. My goal was to see if I could get it to run and see for my self what may be wrong.

As far as blowby. What would be a good indicator of checking how bad that is?

You would need it cranked to determine blow by. Here is a video showing excessive. Do you have any water in the oil? Milky looking? If the head gasket is leaking you wouldn't want to run it much before repairing. Might want to remove radiator cap, roll engine over without pulling compression release and see if you get bubbles in the radiator. If you do your head gasket is most likely leaking. If it is leaking badly it probably won't turn over without pulling the compression release because of water on top of pistons. YouTube - Yanmar 155D Crankcase Vent

Well I haven't checked the vent while cranking but do get some blowback through intake and valve cover ports

Do you mean as if the intake valves weren't closing?(.006") clearance.

Well I'm not sure but could see some smoke pushing out the intake. I was wondering same thing if possibly intake valve not sealing. So you think I need to take valve cover off and see if valves are operating and check clearances?
