My new PJ 14K trailer

Thanks guys the sides were quite a project. I had to do some planing on the rear piece. I derated it because over 10K is cdl territory and also requires combined registration. Legally I could haul around 6K lbs. I live in Lancaster County.

Luckily, in Minnesota, the CDL requirements are as follows: A commercial driver license (CDL) is required in Minnesota to operate vehicles that weigh more than 26,000 pounds, vehicles that carry more than 15 people including the driver, and vehicles identified as school buses, or carrying hazardous materials. According to: Applying for a New Minnesota Commercial Drivers License at DMV.org: The DMV Made Simple. My Truck's GVWR is 9000lbs, plus the trailer totals 23,000lbs. I can still, thankfully, keep my trailer registered at 14,000lbs without needing a CDL.:cheerful:

I am just a wee bit jealous, though, that yours is a deckover and mine isn't.

I am so glad I live where I live. My small trailer is a 7K but my others are a 12K and a 18K. My old GN was 25K but it was too big for 95% of the stuff I did so I sold it. Heck, it was 6,200# empty. There is no way I could deal with the ridiculous 10K rule some of you have.

As for a 16' dump, its going to be heavy. My uncle has a 14' BriMar Dump and its got 2 7K axles for a 14K GVWR. It weighs 4,200# empty so it has a honest 9,800# payload. If he had to deal with the stupid 10K rule on a 16' Dump that weighs maybe 4,500# empty that leaves him with a 5,500# payload which is not much at all. That would not even haul my Jinma 284 with the FEL and a implement on the 3 point or 2.5 yards of material.

Did you go to Fayette for it? I'd cut those bolt ends off too before you slice open a tire or your arm on there.

Yep after my first deckover I will never go back.

Yeah the laws are dumb in my mind.

No I managed to get it cheaper from a local place. Fayette didn't want to take my old trailer on trade. I actually put rubber caps on the bolt threads. I needed 3" bolts but, they didn't have them so I settled on 3 1/2" bolts. I didn't feel like cutting them off so I bought some caps to stick on.

Love that PJ! I bought exactly the same trailer in '09 except that I added the removable side rails. PJ makes top notch trailers in my opinion.

I'm a "suspenders AND belt" kinda guy. I tend to overbuild or overbuy everything. I love having a 14K trailer to haul my little Kubota + attachments, and not have to worry about the trailer being big enough or strong enough. Nice job on the sides.

Those PJ 8 inch I-beam trailers are heavy duty.

Looks like you treated the bed wood also, looks good, and nice job on the sides.

One suggestion: turn the bolts around and counter-bore the holes so the ends are flush with the edge of the 2x.

Congratulations, I bet you'll be very happy with it.

What are you towing it with?

Thanks guys. I put some rubber caps on the bolts for now. I don't want to cut them off yet as the wood has dried some and I had to go back and snug the nuts up. I tow it with a 03' Ford F250 6.0. Here's a picture from awhile ago...
