I was going to buy a brand new rear blade a couple years ago, so I got some quotes on both the RBT3596 and RBT4096.

These are the notes I have:

Rear blade:
Land pride RB 3572 $1459
Rbt 3584 $2199 - no hyd
W hyd = $3100

RBT4096-$3060
W/ hyd-$3850
Skid shoes +200
No gauge wheel available

RBT3596 with full full hyd and gauge wheel $4129

Note that the blade itself is the same on the 35 and 40 series, it's just the frame (and perhaps pin) that is a bit heavier duty.
For some reason Landpride doesn't offer a gauge wheel option for the 40 series, but it does for the 35 series.

I ended up finding my 4096 used, so I never found out what the true "out the door" price would have been (taxes etc)

I'm planning on "someday" building a hydraulic gauge wheel for it. I already have the design, wheel, and the cylinder, just need to get the time and materials for the rest of it.

In looking at your photo is appear the Kit for the 35 series would work if you drilled 4 holes for mounting . Page 26 of the parts book shows the plate http://www.landpride.com/ari/attach/lp/public/manuals/301-251p.pdf

They are great blades. As an alternative to new if you aren't in a hurry keep your eyes open for used ones. I picked up a like new RBT3584 with skid shoes and Fit Rite cylinders on the offset and angle for $1500. I have TnT so the manual blade tilt works fine. I did try moving snow with it last year but the ground wasn't frozen and the skid shoes dug in which allowed the blade to dig in as well.

$1500:shocked: :mur::mur: Man I dream of a deal like that. That is what I want for my smaller tractor.

Just curious, by chance did the guy say why he was getting rid of if?

I thought I would ask if there are any tricks to set up for snow plowing such as offset, top link setting to have the shoes flat or tilted someway. I will have chains on all four wheels and plan to spray the blade so snow wont stick to it. I have already learned not to let the 3pt down all the way, but just soft set and hold so it wont go deeper. Is there a magical setting on blade rotation too?
Thanks

Why do you say you've already learned not to,let the 3 point down all the way?

What i do, is set my skid shoes so when my blade is level to the ground the cutting edge is just a hair above the ground, leaving a small 1/2" gap or so.

Then, once the height of the skidshoes is set (I leave it there all winter) I put my top link in float, and adjust the height of my 3 point hitch to match the cut I want. If I lower the 3 point hitch, the cutting edge will scrape the ground clean, but if I raise the height of the 3 point hitch, the cutting edge will be maybe an inch above the ground, leaving some snow behind.

By floating the top link with the skidshoes set, I'm simply varying the angle, and height, of the blade when I raise and lower the hitch.

Sometimes I'll have the hitch all the way lowered. Is this not recommended?

Thanks - that is what I was thinking of doing, but unfortunately I cant put the top link in float. Where I learned my first lesson was I was grading in a soft spot in the drive and when I had the 3pt too low the shoes dug in right with the blade. On the second try I lowered with the 3 point to where the shoes just hit the ground firmly (shoes set as you mentioned) and locked the height in - worked great.

Thanks again for the help

There simply is NOTHING like experience. Hopefully a person learns from mistakes made and that experience makes them that much better. ;)

For snow I set the top link short so the blade edge is about vertical to minimize digging in. $1500 was a steal.

Funny story that, of course all deals like that come with a story... Guy had bought a ~35HP Mahindra, the blade, and a nice LP landscape rake with the intention of building his own fairly long driveway. Started the project and quickly realized a dozer was required, just to much for the tractor and blade, I think there were stumps to deal with. Money was tight and he had no use for the blade so up for sale it went. The reason why its funny is because I had "wanted" one of these based on your feedback, I didn't really need one at that time but one of my brothers did. So when I stumbled upon the ad, which had an asking price of $2000, which I think was a more than fair asking price, I passed it on to my brother. He needed to crown his drive and cut a ditch alongside and was also looking for a snow removal tool. A week went by and despite his wife's insistence that he buy it, he decided to pass on it. As you guys are well aware these things don't come up for sale that often so I concluded that not needing it I could pay $1500 for it. Called the seller, let him know I realized what he had, explained I didn't need it and knew it was worth his asking price but I could offer $1500 and would fully understand if he didn't except. I was really hoping he would say no... no exaggeration, he paused for a solid 20 seconds, which is a long time to have dead silence on a phone call, he called my bluff and said yes. Of course when I told my brother the price he became interested again :) He actually went and picked it up and we completed all his projects with the blade shortly there after. I have since cut all kinds of ditches and roads around my property with it as well.
