I'm hoping, if I keep on top of the routine maintenence, and channel the power of positive thinking, I won't need to buy a lot of parts!

Can I just ask about the Hoye manuals? Does anyone have them? If I get the operations and service manuals, but not the parts manual, would that be enough to instruct me on all the maintenance required?

Operation manual is all the owner needs for routine maintenance. it is quite comprehensive.

Shop manual is for the dealer (or owner with a decent shop) to overhaul etc. I doubt you need it immediately if everything works properly.

Parts Manual is valuable to show how things fit together when you need to tear something down, as well as listing part numbers. Again, you don't need this immediately. In many cases the parts diagrams on Hoyetractor.com are sufficient to see how things fit together.

Good news I appear to have secured a 4' rotary pasture topper on EBay.

Have emailed Hoye for some details on their operation manual, as they don't have one exactly for my model.

Anyone know how the hydraulic joystick controls on the right hand mud guard works. I assume the stick controls the hydraulic lines in each direction, but what do the rotary knobs do. One has two positions, the other three.

Here's a pic of the joystick and knobs. I assume they control the two unused hydraulic connections at the rear. Can anyone shed any light on how it works?

I have a feeling they are the UFO controls for a tiller, there is a very detailed post from Mickey_FX about these, can't find it at the mo, i think he is the only one who has got these working correctly.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the tractor. Lots of good info on TBN as you can see. As for manuals.....I bought a service manual and parts manual for my tractor from Hoye. I find the parts manual to be the most useful......some very good diagrams. Service manual is good if you need to do any bigger jobs. Looks like a nice tractor and I love your bassett hound in the picture! Good luck with your tractor!

I just looked your breed up on google, never heard of them before. Nice looking hounds! Look, similar,to a blood hound. Believe it or not Basil has never howled yet. Maybe he's still too young. I tried showing him videos of other Bassets howling but he's not the sharpest tool in the box, he just walked off!

Anyway, can't hang around chatting about dogs, I've got an hours drive (thats a long way in the UK!) to go an pick my mower up. Hopefully it'll be as described, and I can give it a test later on.....

Which brings me on to my next question. PTO speeds. I've got a three speed PTO, how do I know which is right for a 4' two blade rotary mower deck?

Lowest pto speed should be standard 540 rpm. The higher speeds on Japanese tractors are for their proprietary implements - and are unsafe with standard implements designed for 540.
