My oldest daughter is engaged!

I knew it was in the works for a while. The young man asked my wife and me for permission last November. I was starting to get concerned with how long it was taking him. I figured he'd spring the question on Christmas... nope. Then thought Valentines day... nope. Then thought her birthday in April... nope. I was beginning to think about making the young man re-ask for permission. But he called and said he was having a custom ring made and it was taking longer than expected.

Last weekend, they went to New Mexico to help on a family cattle roundup. At the end of a long day, they rode their horses to the top of a mesa, and he got down on his knee and proposed as the sun was setting. Got to give him credit, he knew the dream she always dreamt and made it memorable.

No date set yet. I'm watching my wife and 2 daughters (and every other female in our clan) spring into planning mode. They're all frugal, but I still see dollar signs in my future. Oh well, there aren't any pockets in a casket.

To top it off, she just won her barrel race tonight, fastest time in the top division. And she did it on a horse she raised from a yearling and saddle broke when she was a 15 year old kid.

My granddaughter living south of Tulsa barrel races, like most horse girls from that area. She's good, but not yet competition for your daughter.

It's pretty special with your daughter doing it on a horse she raised and trained!

Congrats! We're in that phase. 2nd kid is married. 1st one is doing so in late May. 3rd is in long-term, but waiting until gf finishes grad school.
4th is open to the correct suitor, but she has high standards.

I think they're planning to do the wedding in Mason, TX. I have a deer lease there and some of his family ranches there, so it has special meaning to us.

I have the photo she sent us when he first put it on her finger. Of course she'd been working cattle all day, so her hands were pretty "rustic". She'll kill me if I share that one. Once they got home, she went to a nail salon and had her nails done with an official picture that she then shared. I'll get the wife to share it with me.

He knew he found the right one Im when he proposed and said let’s go to the city and get the ring… she said you have money for a city ring and he said he had been saving almost 2 years…

She said a city ring would cost a lot… that money could go for the cost of that bull you have been talking about to start our own herd…

I bought my wife a nice one carat diamond for her engagement ring, but our wedding rings are a set from Amazon that cost $80 for both of them.

I love stopping in Muenster at Fischer's meat market. Great German staples and sausage variety.
