Know I'am writing this in kinda late but whatever you DO do not buy the Makita HP1640.My sons and I bought the same one thinking it was a lotta bang for the buck and they gave us nothing but trouble. The selector for hammer or drill on them gets jamed.
 HP1640 5/8 in. Hammer Drill-HP1640 at The Home Depot
Even though never owned one I would also run from the Makita HP1641K that utalizes the same switch as the model thats been given alot of trouble I mentioned. When we went to exchange the HP1640 even the one on display at HD was stuck jammed :( .
I ended up paying difference and gettin a Makita HP2050  HP2050 3/4 in. Hammer Drill-HP2050 at The Home Depot which has been flawless. :)
First time I ever had a problem with a Makita product.I also own a Bosch Bulldog which I could not be happier with ! I buy all the sds Bosch stuff and have seen HF sells sds stuff but have never bought, used; or heard anyones experiences with them(HF sds).

Boone,
I braved getting out a little today with my nasal infection. I checked out the rental yards, then went to HD and saw your HP2050. I like Makita anyway and came home to read reviews on it. Guess great minds think alike. I am also leaning to this one at HF.... 3-in-1 1" SDS Rotary Hammer. It has numerous positive reviews. I will now read reviews on the Mikita HP2050. Thanks:thumbsup:..................and;) ........ ......................hugs, Brandi

Ms.Brandi before I(we) bought the HP1640 I read a review about problem with hammer/drill switch, and bought it anyway thinking it was a Makita basher. I was wrong dang it if our switches didn't jam just like the review said. :(

I bought the Chicago Electric rotary hammer from HF for $69.27 with the 20% off coupon. I was impressed that it came with replacement grease and brushes when the motor wears down. It is a big boy and it drilled through the concrete like butter. It went in so fast, I hardly had time to make sure the bit was square before it hit the depth I set. Then Luke helped me put the wall up. It stood by itself with the sill plate bolts tight.

Ok.. Now we know the real reason you got the Chicago Electric.. It looks like the Makita Blue would clash with your nail polish, but the Chicago Electric red is almost a prefect match.. :D :D

Wedge,
I didn't even think of that. I have worn blue polish before to match our work uniforms.

Lee,
I usually buy 8 foot 2x4s, but went with the stud length pink to not have to measure and cut to length from an 8 footer. Besides the price was around 60 cents cheaper. But I still had to cut 3/4 inch off one end. Which was good as only one end was square. I think I might have screwed up. My math on a scrap board and my nasal infection might have not meshed. The pink does stand out:cool:, but will be covered.:(

Boone,
Insulate my stall.:laughing::laughing: You know insulation comes in pink also?;) The rotary hammer "kit" came with a chisel and punch and four concrete bits..........all in metric sizes. I had a new 3/8ths inch Bosch bit that I was trying to use with my cordless Makita. It worked like a hot knife through butter with the new hammer/drill.

I have been quite busy. I got my helicopter tail rotor ceiling fan out of the old shop and installed it over my work benches. It is off of a Bell 206 BIII or a Bell Longranger. It fit both models. The gearbox is up above in the loft. I need a new motor for it and will try to get one from HF. A old washing machine motor ran it and it is not working now. I tried to find another used mashing machine motor, but now all the machines sitting around in the "parts" yards use electronics in the motors.

The first photo shows the first workbench in and the "back" wall sheeted with 3/8th inch plywood. 2nd photo shows the pink studs sheeted on the outside. Third photo shows shelves over the first workbench. The 4th photo shows the floor to ceiling shelves, along with most of the second workbench. The last photo shows the overall effect of shelves, benches, and ceiling fan
