My Real Cowgirl

My dad has always said that you're not a real cowboy until you get bucked off a horse.

My 8-year-old has been in 4H this year, and she showed her horse at the fair Saturday. Now that the show is over I've told her we can ride and do whatever she wants rather than practice for show. We were playing tag yesterday when somehow her foot slipped out of the stirrup at the same time the horse spooked. In short, she was thrown in a cloud of dust.

After a brief conversation to check that she wasn't seriously hurt, she breaks out in a big grin revealing all the dirt and debris in her teeth. "Am I a real Cowgirl now?" she asked.

That's MY cowgirl!
That's a real warm and fuzzy story, enjoyed it.

Really neat. You should get her something like this. I have seen one with a rodeo rider image but I can't find that on the web.

A huge thanks to all who have replied. I let my daughter read the thread up to this point and she's grinning from ear to ear all over again.

There's an 8-year-old girl laying in her bed right now too proud of herself to fall asleep thanks to a handful of real good people that she'll likely never meet. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Nice story, thanks for sharing. She's likely gonna get re-initiated once or twice more over the years to come!

BTW, what does 4 h stand for? I can never remember. Head, hands, heart or ??

I went looking for the rodeo version of the shirt you posted, and I found this...

My wife really wants to find one in my daughter's size now.

Head, Heart, Hands & Health

Bird is right, and I'll never forget before each 4-H Club meeting we would say the following:

In support of the 4-H Club Motto:

To Make The Best Better. . .
I pledge my head to clearer thinking,
My heart to greater loyalty,
My hands to larger service, and
My health to better living for my club, my community, and my country.

There are some things you just never forget.:D
