My recently finish tree scoop bucket

The Kubota with the black bucket is my machine. I recommend the slightly flattened tip. This allows the bucket to cut the roots. A sharp tip bucket tends to push the roots to one side or another and not cut. That's my opinion.

Thanks.
I did decide to go with the flattened tip and a welding shop is working on it now.

Sounds good! It's always fun to make your own equipment. You'll have to share a picture of it with us. Good luck!

I thought of building it myself but the weight and difficulty of the steel and size of the job was too much. Plus it's winter and no heat in the shop.
Yes, photos will follow.

I knew that didn't sound right when I submitted it. I meant it's fun to have equipment made or make it yourself. There's nothing wrong with having someone make it. It's still your design and your ideas. I think at least 3 people besides me worked on mine. It's just fun to make or have something made that is custom tailored to your needs. That's what I meant. Sorry for the confusion.

So where do you get the skid steer blank - to weld the rolled steel to?
Great work gentlemen. I want one:thumbsup:

You can get the skid steer blank in lots of places.
What I have is a 75 HP JD 5520 tractor with a QT bucket setup. I also have a JD QT round bale spear with a very rugged frame.

Sooo, I'm having the shovel built and mounted to a flat plate that will bolt to my bale spear frame.
This way I can get double use out of my bale frame, not have to convert/adapt to the skid steer format and if I ever want to I have the flat plate to weld the skid steer adaptor on to.

I could even buy--for $245--a set of QT adapters to weld on to the bucket plate if I want to free up my bale spear. But I could weld that myself later.
This shovel idea will or should work. I'm building dimensionally similar to commercial models that already have proven correct. No re-inventing any wheels for me.
It will be 1/2" plate, braced correctly and welded by a guy that has a full shop. I'll post pictures when it gets done.

Sounds like a good plan! I thought about doing a bucket that bolts onto my pallet fork frame. But eventually I decided to just by the quick attach plate.

Here's a link to a blank thru Northern Tool. Hawkline by Behlen Country Universal Weld-On Mount, Model# 80112725 | Skid-Steers + Attachments | Northern Tool + Equipment

I built my adapter and bucket. I don't have any pics right now but I'll try to add some when I get back home. The bucket is made from 24" pipe, 3/8" wall, cut at an angle very similar to the black bucket mounted on the Kubota pictured above. I just got it done a couple weeks ago and haven't used it yet. I've got a bunch of Eastern Red Cedars that are already nervous. ;)
