Consider yourself lucky that you got it looked at that fast. My older Stihl 029 needed some work on it. Lost job so have been logging with it to scratch out a living. Called the dealer where I purchased and was told at least three weeks before they could get to it. Explained the situation and asked if they could help me out where I was unemployed and needed it. Dealers response " I hate that for you". Called another Stihl dealer to see if I could get a carb for it. Yes, come in and pay in advance and we will order it. Take about a week or little more. Third Stihl dealer had one in stock. Told him I was on my way and he said will have it ready when you get here. Guess who gets my Stihl business now. Bought a few additional odds and ends while their just for the good service

Another logger left one in the shop all last winter. They never did fix. He finally went and got it and took it somewhere else. Point of all this being a good dealer is worth getting your business.

Just to wrap things up, I picked up the MS 290 this afternoon. They had been waiting on the head for about a week, it showed up this morning & they finished up the repair.

The service manager showed me the damaged piston and noted some very deep grooves running the length of the piston, still deep where they crossed the rings. He is inclined to think a big part of the trouble came from something in the crankcase & indicated he will be talking to Stihl about warranty reimbursement from them for the repair.

In any case, I've got my repaired saw back at no cost to me & still covered by the factory warranty. I am a very satisfied customer and feel very well treated by the service department.

Now to get started on the dead fall that came down two days ago at the backyard tree line...

I am glad it turned out okay.

Yeah, I think I'm going to be pretty fuel paranoid from now on. Probably start emptying equipment that has been unused for any period of time before fueling rather than topping off before a job & then eyeballing what comes out and what is going in each and every time....

Just a note. I came very close to straight gasing 3 saws last year. Usual practice was put one bottle oil in can, add gas. That day I had filled the can with gas, refueled saws and was putting them away when I spotted the bottle of oil still sitting there. Best to do the mixing/fueling the same way every time!!!

Glad to see it all worked out. I had a Homelite 360 back when they were still producing professional grade saws. The electrode came off the plug, beat the pee out of the piston, and welded itself to the piston. Somehow the jug was undamagedt, just cost me a new piston and rod assembly.
