the problem isn't pulling the mower out. Grumpy's tractor may even do it. The problem is getting it out without caving in the hole under
the tractor. I don't know if Dt's loader will lift it but if he tries he will put a lot of weight above the hole that's under the tractor. I realize
that the tractor is above the hole now. I would want something big enough to pull it out if the hole UNDER the tractor starts to give way'

Pan

your right my 855 might pull it out or my 941 loader or my 580 backhoe , Really guys this thing is not that stuck by what I can see from the pictures ,Would it not be easy enough to drop the mower and just use the loader to pull it up and out ,You can see theres no sense trying to jack it up from the rear and if the tractor just can't muscle it out ,Other than using some skills to use the loader and chains in the position it sits in the easiest way would be to drop it and use the loader .if need be add some ballast

Grumpy, either you seem to be forgetting about the hole under the tractor or do not think it is much of an issue
Personally, I feel it is a HAIL of an issue

i'm looking at the pictures and the tractor is 3 feet from the hole , The outside tires of the mower look as tho they are stuck 2 feet outside of the hole and if it were me I'd drop the clutch and ride it out !

"What we have is a sink hole 12 or so feet deep with an opening about 5'x8' and nearly vertical sides. It opens up on one side and goes much deeper UNDER the tractor."

If he could unhook it might just go to the bottom.

Ok so wouldn't the best idea be to risk the mower and save the tractor by unhitching it and pulling far foward then take a 20 foot chain and just drag the mower away from the hole ??? Short of getting a helicopter and lifting straight up thats pretty much your option ??? Isn't it ???

I have no experience in this type of extraction, so I will only wish you a safe recovery.
Good luck, be safe.

If the tractor is keeping the mower from going in you may not be able to unhook it.

If you unhook it you could cause the hole to cave in with you between the tractor and mower

with the tractor headed backwards into the hole.
