I had to put my Dad in a nursing Home March of '05. He has Alzheimers and it hit him fast, he is only 69 years old and had only been retired a couple years. We are getting ready to build a new house on 50 ac and I wish he was around to to see it.

What part of NC are you in?

It will be two years in April that my father has been gone. They say time heals all wounds. I do not know if I agree with that statement. I think of him every day. I find myself thinking during projects, how would dad do this. I think a little piece of you dies with each parent as they pass on.

I have a little different approach to your saying. When I was 16 I could not believe how dumb my parents were. By the time I was 20 I could not believe how much they learned in 4 years.

It must be we guys from NC. I bought my Dad a 335 tractor for Father's Day in 2004, and took a bunch of pictures as he wheeled around proudly on his machine. He told me not to have, but it was truly worth every penny watching him drive around on that little mower. I too am having to deal with watching my father age (he is also 76) and at times that is hard. As a physician, I deal with life and death daily, but something is different when it is YOUR parent. As an only child, and a doctor, I have to listen to my mother complain about my father's increasing fraility. I remind her a frail good husband and a frail good father are better than not having one. I am looking forward to the drive down to see my parents this coming Monday. I know it will be another nice time with my father (and his little JD).
