My UPS keeps screwing up

Hello, I have a Schneider UPS That I bought last June and it has now taken to screwing up at in opportune times.

We had a power outage at the cottage when I was not there, and I could tell it was not working because I could not access my thermostat via the UPS. So, I had someone go in and check, and the UPS was screaming with a loud tone, which is unsure some sort of alarm, and of course, the wifi which was connected to it was not functioning.

There is a reset button on the front that my friend held down until the tone stopped, and then everything was functioning fine.

Now it is not working again, and there's no Power Outage, so that could not be the cause.

Any ideas?

What's plugged into it, and how close to the UPS's rated load is it? A printer or something with a motor in it might have a larger start-up draw than the UPS is rated for.

Very little is plugged in to it. Just the wifi and a cordless phone.

Thing about the batteries used in a UPS is age is their weakness, always check the manufacture date. I will not purchase one that is older than 6 months of age. They also do not like extreme temps, especially heat and need to be charged for at least 8 hours before being put into service, 12 to 24 is better. And yes, over loading can affect them but usually they will just shut down if they are.

I used to be the one to replace weak or dead UPS batteries in a data center. The batteries had nice, high-current Anderson connectors on them. I kept the connectors from the old batteries, just because. Now I've got a few spares . . .
