James, great re-design! The two bolt end threads exposed look like they could be in harms way? Perhaps add a second nut, on each side, for thread protection?

Good idea. Or I thought about just sawing them off flush.

Looks good James. I have the same grapple. I'm putting this on my project list.
Would you do anything different if you remade it or made another?

Time will tell Lenny, but so far so good. My second redesign of the lower is more protected and facilitates "grubbing" better. I am pretty much just leaving it on as it doesn't seem to really hurt to leave it on all the time. I will report back in a period of time as more hours are accumulated on the project to see how it holds up. Go ahead and make one, and this can be a place to compare designs and experiences.

Still on the grapple and still on when I need it. A very useful tool for very low expense.

James, I'd forgotten about this. I'll begin mine this week.

Do you have a picture of the bottom jaw on the grapple but from the underside. I am having trouble picturing how your ground off bolt holds the jaw onto the grapple. I'm planning on purchasing a 60 inch single lid. is your a 60 or a 66

thanks

Mine is a 50 single lid. I don't have a pix of the bottom but the bolt just fits up from the bottom in an existing space. The bolt head is ground on one side for clearance and it wedges so that the bolt cannot turn. This allows the use of only one wrench up top to take off or put back on as the bolt head cannot turn. When you get your grapple it will be evident. (unless of course they have changed the design)

I don't know kioti's but how big is your tractor, HP weight. I am planning on a 60 inch single lid on a 47 Hp grand L kubota that weights approx 6000 lbs when ballasted. would you say your grapple is properly sized for your tractor?

your signature says 50 inch grapple is that a typo?

thanks for the feedback.

Tractor is 35 horsepower class. I believe it is about 38 hp. It weighs about 6000 lbs ballasted. My grapple IS a 50 inch I misspoke in the above post when I said it was 60 inch.
yes I would say the 50 inch is about properly sized for my tractor. I have not been able to tear it up. :) Of course I don't operate quite like Ted does either. :)

I bought the 73” WG for utility tractors for my small tractor (55 hp) to get the bigger 42”+ jaw opening for brush and tree limbs.

My other 84” grapple, on my New Holland, only opens to about 34”
