There is linkage to a reinforced plunger like thing in the bucket that appears to push whatever is in the bucket out the bottom, which is slotted in line with the bucket ears to stay in alignment in the bucket. There is a reinforced concave plate/shoe on the bottom that looks like it slide along another concave plate like a shear. As far a s size, the beer can scales it.

Any thoughts?

Garlic press.

LOL
Don't know, but it is cool looking.

It IS cool looking. Whatever it did/does looks to require quite a bit of pressure. Interesting - somebody will recognize this and we will all be amazed/educated.

A press used to make Mastadon sausage?

No idea. Looks pretty cool though.

Put's a new prospective on "Whole Hog Sausage" just insert the whole hog. Surely somebody knows what this is used for. It's a serious press of some sorts.

looks like it could be a concrete press of some sort . maybe for making footings ???

Would probably make a good apple press for cider.

Looks similar but pretty small for that. I was thinking it may be a muck bucket for cleaning out a well though.

My guess is that it's used to lower and extract well pipe down a well. It looks like you could put it over the casing, rock it back and forth (with a machine of some type), and "ratchet" the pipe up and down. Only thing that's missing (unless it's in there somewhere), is a "wedge clamp" for the pipe.

I'm surprised that almost 1000 people have looked at the pictures and nobody instantly recognizes the "thing".

I'm waiting for a fresh suggestion. In the other thread I thought it reminded me a a piece of foundry equipment.

The 'well digging dump bucket' is a good one but I've had no luck investigating that line.

That 'skid' is the intriguing part. It's sort of like the fluke of an anchor. :scratchchin:

Any names or numbers cast into it anywhere?
