Mystery of the Flying Walenda/Houdini Bull

I once watched a cowboy on horseback chasing a half grown steer in a pasture that adjoined mine. When I saw that steer running full bore right through a 5 strand barbed wire fence into my pasture, I went to see how much damage was done to the fence, and there was no damage. How that steer went through a good tight barbed wire fence without leaving any sign of where he hit it was just mind boggling to me.

Simple, the steer pasted through an Energy Tunnel that allowed the wire to pass through his body. :dance1:

You should never have shown those movies of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension to the calves to calm them down.

Before Katrina hit everyone took their horses out the rental barn and put them in the pasture with a few horses that had been there for some time. I watched as the old horses stampeded the newcomers and ran them through two field fences I had around my pasture.

Even though a few horses tumbled and fell it appeared that none were hurt but I had over 300 feet of fence completely destroyed.

And it might help if you took that bull's cigarettes and lighter away. :)

Or a collar so he can't squeeze thru.:D
Based on a story my dad told about a Jersey cow that used to jump fences, even with a "collar", do not put a few feet of chain around his horns unless you want to do some serious fence fixin'. My dad said when she walked up to the fence, the chain touched the electric wire (which is what he had in mind) and got bit. When she jerked her head, the chain looped around the electric wire so that, every time the fencer pulsed, she got another whack. He said she pulled 1/4 mile of fence down before it finally broke loose from the fencer. He sold her.

hmm...well, dunno if a mini Hereford bull makes the 1000# bar, but your point is accurate. Maybe he's finding a mini hole in the fence for his mini vacation with the girls:confused2:

a Jersey cow that used to jump fences, even with a "collar",

That comment reminded me of when we used what we called a "yoke" on a cow or calf that had a tendency to get through a barbed wire fence. Of course us poor folks just used a long forked stick with the single end down and the "forks" tied together above the animal's neck. It worked well to stop them from going through a fence, but wouldn't have helped if they had jumped. Some folks, with more money, used two flat pieces of iron curved in the middle to go on either side of the cow's neck and then bolted together above and below the neck.

Bird, I've got on of those curved metal yokes you describe...never used it...came with the place when we bought it.

It's been a long time since I've seen one used. I think most folks have better fences that some we had when I was a kid.
