Wish I had a micrometer, that would really help indeed.
:D
David

Well that's a caliper and they are really nice to have so everyone should have one but you can also use a pocket scale to measure your lug nuts or even a ruler or tape measure. That pic was just an example of what and how to go about measuring your lug nuts.

Dial Calipers are pretty cheap.. Maybe $15.. I have a Dial Caliper and a Digital Caliper. The digital might have been $25. You should own one.:) The digitals will do metric and SAE measurements with the flick of a button and also zero anywhere along the scale. Kinda nice, but they DO have batteries..

Hey James!

Yeah, Caliper that's the term... A micrometer is a smaller scale...

Yet another of the long, long list of tools I need to procure... Someday soon I hope.

How are you my friend?

Hopefully very well.

David

For the lug nut removal I'd buy a good quality impact socket, or a complete set, available most anywhere. Husky, as just one name, available at H. Depot, for instance.
And at least a six inch extension, also impact rated. This is assuming that you have a compressor to drive an impact gun.:confused3:

I have had / used one of the cheap digital ones from Harbor Freight for years. They run about $16-17 and you can usually find a 20% off coupon floating around somewhere pretty easy.

I have never tried to verify the accuracy of the measurement it gives you, but the repeat-ability is good enough for what I do (ex If I measure something and it says it's 24.065 mm I have no idea if it's truly 24.065 mm but I know every time I open it to 24.065 it's the exact same size).

If I made a living as a machinist I'd buy a quality set, but for quick & dirty around the house/shop/farm stuff - these will measure better than I can cut. ;)

Well I got the rim off using my 15/16 impact socket and a hand ratchet. I've had a local tire shop mount the tire, and I just attached the tire/rim and drove to the house with the tractor. I'm going to get the right socket and torque setting befroe serious use though.

EVERYWHERE I've looked so far I cannot find a 24mm impact socket (darn few regular sockets, and all 12 point!!!)

I've not made it to Lowe's nor Home Depot yet though, but all the local auto parts stores, wally world, TSC, have been a bust...

I'm going out shortly though.

We shall see...

Be well,
David

I bought one at Harbor Freight and have seen them at numerous Chinese tool places. Also, the US equivalent will fit and you know that, but it will fit better with different "points" in the socket. I don't remember exactly, but I think my Kubota lug nut fit the socket better--maybe exact-- with the 6 point. socket. As well, I bought the whole metric impact set for under $20 at Harbor Freight.
