I finally got my N209, and it appears to be in pristine condition minus the tail light that was broken off in the container. The front axle seals will need to be replaced soon, but the oil was fine.

I am trying to figure out the "Shuttle Shift" as written in English on the back of the tractor. It appears that in first and second range, the forward/neutral/reverse lever on the left hand side of the steering column is a shuttle shift (shift without the clutch and no gear grinding noises!). In third range, the lever will not move from neutral unless you push the clutch. Perhaps that is a safety feature? What are other people's experiances with the Hino Nxxx models?

After putting a load on the tractor, I quickly learned that you have to use the clutch for all shifting. I guess it was wishful thinking. However, the shuttle shift lever is conveniently located on the left side of the steering column and it is really nice for switching between forward and reverse.

Shuttle Shift means you have a synchronous shifter from forward to reverse. Yanmars have a hydro shuttle shift so you don’t have to use a clutch but most shuttles require a clutch. It is just a convenient way to change directions in the same gear and range.
