If you have an air compressor, you could use one of the 2-part epoxies that would normally be sprayed into a pick up truck as a bed liner. Rhino-Liner is the most common brand, and you can't buy their branded mix, but you can find other brands of 2-part epoxy that would make a very good roof. The cost to cover the roof would probably be about $150, assuming 2 coats are applied and that the roof is basically the size of 2 or 3 sheets of 4x8 plywood.

A spray on 2 part epoxy will be much better than anything you can roll or brush on. It will be much thicker and more flexible too. I've used it on a couple projects and been very satisfied with the stuff you can buy on Ebay (Rattleguard and Xtremeliner).

If kids are going to climb on the roof, you have to be concerned using any material that is slippery when wet. I would think that paint or driveway sealer would be very slippery when wet.

Have you thought about staples? With an air stapler it would be a very easy install.

A staple gun works good, you should be able to get one at Home Depot. They use the heavy duty Arrow staples but are used like a hammer, don't need air, and they are a lot faster than nails. I worked for a guy framing houses about 25 years ago and we called them slap guns. Not sure what the real name for them is.
