Napa Oil Filters?

I use Napa golds on all my tractors and dozers and have never had a problem with them. Have used Frams for since 97 on my Dodge deisel, and most of the time on most of my other vehicles. The exception to that lately is my wifes 07 Camry. It gets Toyota filters exclusively. Ever since the service manager and the saleman told that theirs is a superior filter.

When I started having problems with the hydraulic pump on my dozer, I put in a new Case hydraulic filter. It was $80. Not too long after that they pump got worse and I pulled it out for a rebuild. When I replaced it, I also replaced all three hydraulic filters. I thought Case was a little on the high side for filters, so I bought Napa filters for half the price.

I cut open the Case filter looking for metal particles or other clues as to what might be the problem with my hydraulic pump. Then for some reason, I saved the filter. I don't remember why, but it turned out to be an interesting desicion. A year or so later, I had another problem with all three hydralic pumps slowing down at the same time, right after the engine warmed up. I pulled one filter off and cut it in half. That wasn't the problem, but I did compare the Napa Filter to the Case OEM filter.

The Napa Filter had an extra metal screen and a much finer mesh like material. There was also more of a paper like material betweent the mesh stuff. Too me, it appeared to be a much better filter.

I use Napa on everything I have.

My dad was fleet manager for a poultry company for 20 years. They bought all filters from the local Napa guy. They had 100 or so pickups and cars, 40-50 trucks, and 40-50 forklifts running that they maintained PMs on. They got good service from their equipment under some pretty rough conditions most times.

If they are quiet on your car use them but I would recommend a UOA since some are better then others.

I only use Amsoil (old) SDF or there Eao, Mobil 1 or K&N based on my oil testing person.

The GC I work for uses as many napa filters as we can.. otherwise we buy oem for the ones that don't cross.

I use some napa myself, and some oem. etc.

I've never seen a failure attributed to a filter on my or one of our compnies piece of equipment.. not saying it can't happen.. just we havn't encountered it.. etc..

i HAVE ALWAYS USED THE CHEAPEST FILTER I COULD BUY

I just can't get **** about something as mundane as an oil filter, its pretty much could be compared with another very similar consumer product called toilet paper.

That's not a bad way to go, but:

For a given price, shouldn't you buy the highest quality filter available for that price? In my experience, Motorcraft and Purolator cost the same or less than a Fram, and from what I can tell, they are far superior.

this subject has been beat to death in the past and will continue to be beat to death in the future. BITOG is a perfect place to see what I mean.

IMHO what most people think makes a superior filter just looks like it superior, reality is different. you push oil thru some holes and force it thru something that catches particles, thats about it. So maybe its the color and thickness of the canister or the appearance of the filter media inside that sells people on something they think is better but I've always just bought the cheapest ones I can get and say I'm good to go.

never had a problem with one.

FWIW, Frams are upscale for me, when I make a trip to Walmart I buy a few of the Supertechs for each of my vehicles. a little over 2 bux a piece. I use cheap synthetic oil too, store brands or what is on sale. no brand loyalty for me.

To sum it up, when a difference makes no difference, is there a difference?
