Re: Neal\'s Generator/Transfer setup
Thanks for the link and great pics. I called GenPOwer and was pleasently surprised that their small (12Kw and 15Kw) PTO units are electronic voltage regulator equipped. This gives a voltage control of within 1% from no load to full load. The guy at GenPower really knew his stuff and explained it well. I was looking at the 13Kw unit from Northern and I understand it is capacitor stabilized voltage. Then I called Winco, thinking they would have electronic voltage control-- Nope!, not this small a generator, they are cap stabilized.
Another question I asked was what if I buy "too big" of a generator. The GenPower guy said
""Within reason, no problem. Example, if you have 20 Hp (enough for 10 Kw) but you buy a 15 Kw unit. You will only get as much as your horsepower input allows, so a max of 10Kw. Of course, you choose which loads you allow to run during a power outage situation, so you may only be using 6Kw. If you eventually trade up your tractor to a larger model, your generator will be ready. A bonus of buying a gnerator a bit too big is that it has more rolling inertia and so will start a motor load more effectively without loosing speed (and so changing frequency) with the sudden surge, as much as a smaller generator would.""
They quoted me the following prices for the GenPower units:
12Kw (for 22Hp tractor PTO) $1650
17Kw (for 26Hp tractor PTO) $1750
These are both electronic reg, have both voltage and frequency meters on them, come with 3pt hitch frames, and tumbling bars with gaurds, and ten foot power cordset.
The Northern one was quoted ar $999 without meters, without electronic voltage control, without tumbler bar, and no 3 pt hitch frame or trailer, and no power cordset.
Anyone know where I can buy the GenPower for less money than those prices I wrote here? Thanks!
