Hi,
I'm nearly ready to attach the hoses from a bucket grapple arm cylinder to one of the hydraulic remotes at the rear of the tractor.

My question is: Do I need to 'crack' the fittings at the grapple arm cylinder when I first operate it to purge the air out of the hoses, or will it self purge after operating it a few times ?

Thanks,
Arky

Do you crack it when attaching to the fel? If not, why would you need to to connect to the rear remotes?

I have no idea, since I've never had the FEL off. I've just not worked with hydraulics before. From what you said then, I assume that the answer is no, it's not needed, and that it will self purge.

Thanks,
Arky

What he said! The system is self-bleeding, the air will be pushed towards the sump.

Just make sure the tractor is NOT running when detaching or attaching any hydraulics. Hydraulic fluid is under high pressure when the tractor and hyd pump are working and when stopped there is still pressure in the lines, which is why it is sometimes very difficult to connect some hydraulic fittings. The detent balls are in the fittings to keep the fluid from leaking out. I suggest wearing gloves when working with fittings just as a precaution. Beware that gloves will NOT stop hydraulic fluid under pressure, when the system is running or springs a leak, from cutting into skin- and if that ever occurs it requires IMMEDIATE medical attention.
Better safe than sorry. Study up in the hydraulics forum to learn all safety issues surrounding hydraulics/fluids.
