Need 10,000 lb trailer for new Tundra

Its a 2 5/16" ball. Glad we have a couple experts on here that think a Tundra could not pull a 10K trailer.:confused2: They have no clue. Tundra is rated to tow well over 10K in all trim levels with the 5.7L

Guess I should not have towed my 9,700# boat that was loaded to about 10,000# with my Nissan Titan all summer about 5,000 miles now total.:D

According to the Toyota Tundra brochure I downloaded from Toyota, as I am interested in them, the double cab is rated 10,100 lbs., while the standard cab is 10,400 lbs. and the crewmax is rated at 9,900 lbs.

My Tundra hardly knows it is pulling 8000 lbs in hills and the Tundra has GREAT brakes. A weight distributing hitch is a good idea as well as brakes on the trailer axles.

As someone else mentioned, load balance on the trailer is very important in regards to how it tows. Having a little extra room will allow you to position the load in just the right spot.

So true. If you can't locate the load properly, even a load well under your GVWR might be too much.

My cargo trailer is a 16' x 96" dovetail trailer with removable steel sides and heavy duty gate/ramp. It's got 2x 3500lb axles. Both axles have electric proportional brakes.

3 weeks ago I hauled a 2003 Dodge Dakota PU on that trailer for a couple hundred kilometres. The Dakota's curb weight is under 4000lb, well within the trailer's GVWR capacity. Eyeballing the Dakota, I guessed where its centre of gravity would be and first tried backing it onto the trailer. The tongue weight was perfect but there was way too much load on the trailer's rear axle.

So I turned the truck around forward and tried it again. Axle load distributions were good, but tongue weight was high. The proper solution would have been another 2 feet of trailer length (or even more).

Everyone that tows should read the above a couple of times and pay attention.
As well, I balance my trailer tires. You would not believe the positive difference that makes.

I've moved a 5225 w/loader and attachment on several occasions using an 18' (deck length) tilt. Load fit fine and even with a double gang disk had ample maneuvering room to adjust tongue weight. the trailer scales at 2700 lbs.
the tractor and loader are right at 5850 lbs.(tires aren't loaded) the bush hog for it is close to 1500 lbs.

I agree that a 18 or 20 foot non tilting 10k trailer should work fine for your L4300 and attachments. Corn pro, Big Tex, and PJ are all good names, plus there are regional brands that are also good.

As for hauling your 5520 on it, that depends on a few factors. I am assuming it is 4WD, if it isn't, my weights are about 1000 pounds high.
Straddle ROPS = 5,800 pounds
IOOS ROPS = 6,100 pounds
Cab = 7,200 pounds
These are the listed shipping weights. A loader is going to weigh about 2,000 pounds or a little more with the bucket, and loaded tires will easily add 1,000 pounds.

So, if you have a loader, you will need a bigger truck and trailer. If it has loaded tires, you are prolly fine if it is an open station tractor, but you would be over weight if it has a cab. If you have a heavy attachment on the back, same as with the loaded tires, you are prolly fine if it is an open station tractor, but you would be over weight if it has a cab. If you have two of these things, or all three of them, together, you would definitely be over weight.

tlbuser - Are you sure that isn't the weight of the 5225 before you add the loader? The loader for that tractor is going to be 1800 to 2000 pounds, and a Kubota M5040, which is about the same size and is known be light for its size, weights 4800 pounds without a cab.

Yep, open station, mfwd, loader, bucket, mounting hardware and fluids. The loader and bucket are a tad under 1500. All of this was scaled at the asphalt plant so there may be a margin of error. Dealer wasn't sure of the weight before we loaded it and the plant was between there and the farm. It felt kinda light behind my truck and everyone with me was sure it had to be really heavy (they do look rather beefy). There was 4 of us in the truck and it was $10.00 a head to play the guessing game. The scale guy got 10, I drove off with an extra 20 :)

Just a side note on weights...

I have had need to tow a variety of Bobcat's skidsteers, and an ASV RC30. Those look small, compact, and not very heavy. Boy was I surprised!

My buddies Bobcat S185 totally does not look it's weight. But, with a bucket on, it is a 6000lb skidsteer. I was really surprised when I looked that up; I would have made a SWAG of maybe 4klbs.

I love my tilt deck, but it is heavy. It's a 22' 14K (18' tilt 4' fixed) Sure-Trac and weighs in at 3700 lbs. It is built like a tank and pulls great, plus with my bad back I don't miss the ramps.
