Need 3 hands to connect PTO shaft to tractor.

Can’t take credit for it but even with the single hole makes connecting the mmm much easier then trying pull the ring back laying on your back and reaching up under the machine with one arm. Granted some of problem could be age related.

Sorry, I didn't know it was on a belly PTO shaft. That drove me crazy on the JD 770. You could plainly see the thing but not get at it with the mower in place. An arm three feet longer with another joint, would have done the job.

I don't know the exact set up on a JD 770, but on my X758 GT, I find it easier to to connect the drive shaft by laying on my back and reaching in under from the rear of the tractor rather then trying to reach in from the middle over the mower deck.

Just like your set up, it can easily be seen but getting to it is another thing.

In addition to the obivious......cleaning/lubricating the metal pto shaft (tractor to implement) and pto spline at the tractor, here is what I did that make a world of difference in ease of hookup:
1. Replaced the twist turn or pull to release yoke to that of the older push pin style.....cost very reasonable
2. With a black paint pen.....marked the location of each spline on the outside of the new yoke, to help with the alignment to the pto spline
3. Cut the excess overlap of the plastic shield, as I was encountering a lot of friction there, even after cleaning everything
These changes removed 80% of the effort in hooking up my brushhog.......hope it helps you as well.

I cut the plastic sleeve off the shaft. That makes it easier to get a grease gun on the zerks too. I don't have employees, so don't have to meet OSHA requirements.

I use a can of spray carb cleaner to clean things up if they get gummy.

It looks too simple for me. I don't see any provision for shaft overrun. It looks like a hands-free disconnect under field conditions.

My thoughts exactly. Seems like it would come apart too easily, and probably when you dont want it to.

I have never really had a problem with hooking up any PTO to the tractor. Unless it was the case of lining up the splines.
Now, I do take off the stupid shield that houses the PTO on the tractor to allow more space for my hands.

If some people think that removing those safety shields are a bad idea, then keep them on your tractor and deal with them. I like to think that I have the intelligence enough to not put anything near the PTO with the engine running. And I dont allow anyone in the cab or on the platform when I am hooking or unhooking implements. Been doing this since I was old enough to understand that the PTO will shred me. I think I was 7 or 8 years old.

I see the shields as a safety backup like chainsaw chaps. I'm pretty careful about operating a saw or being around a running PTO but accidents can happen.

I guess i'm leaning towards replacing the PTO connector with the reliable old school pin release. Always worked as it should.
For now I will continue slapping it in place with a prybar.
