Need a 2210 Alternator and Belt

Fwiw this is The best I can do on a pic. of my Ym2000 Alt.

Carey

Thanks for taking the photo. I see yours also has 4 wires but with 2 of them in a plug. I must have a really old style as it doesn't have the plug I've heard others talk about. Maybe the Datsun alternator has two spade connectors in the back and I just didn't see it in the web photo. Your color code seems to be the same as mine.

I'll get some spare fuses. I got a feeling I will be needing them:D

Gary, take your regulator into Autozone and see if it passes their free test with their tester set to '72 Datsun'. If it does - then there is some way to make this alternator work.

by the look of those Datto alternators they are using a 2 wire reg only. this prolly would explain the 2 outs only. early chryslers ran that style of alternator setup. do they have an alternator with only the 2 field wires as AC out only? this will work OK with the 4 wire reg with minimal wiring changes. i am having dramas getting a reg to work with my YM14 pancake alternator as it only puts out 20VAC, not enough to get the reg to output and extinguish the warning light.(using a car regulator that is) i made a rude and crude bridge rectifier but it puts out 16.5VDC to the battery with minimal load connected,if i turn the headlights and the electric clutch on its about 15VDC. California did you use the 6 wire reg with your replacement alt or did you change it? my 1500 has a 2 wire reg only.

"Mine's not handy either. I'm laid up in town, doped stupid waiting for kidneystone surgery. I hope I'm making sense."
Well, where's the fun in that:confused2:? (To quote Tom Hanks in the movie "Big".)
Here's hoping for a quick recovery. I have never actually needed to use thoseparts, just noted it about 10 years ago, and have read of numerous successes since then.

Fwiw, I did order an alternator for a 1972 Nissan 510. It came in yesterday, but did not match the connections on the back of the tractor alternator. This was from a national chain auto parts store. The manufacturer of the alternator was Mitsubishi and the tractor alternator is made by Hitachi. I did not try to make it work.

A local mom & pop auto parts store is ordering one for me and it is made by Mitsubishi. It comes in tomorrow. If it does not match I will buy the single wire generic alternator as discussed here:
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/yanmar/107938-replaced-alternator-regulator.html

I'll try to get some pictures either way.

Thanks, Keith

Yes. The original 6-wire Hitachi mechanical regulator was on the Yanmar when I bought it. It worked fine. I stupidly destroyed it by pressure-washing out the solid mud that was packed under it - probably an insect nest. That smoked it, then soon burned up the alternator.

So I ordered the 6-wire replacement regulator from a Yanmar dealer. I took it to Autozone on a hunch. They tested, and told me it was indistinguishable from their '72 Datsun' at 1/4 the cost. The Yanmar dealer has been good to me so I didn't return it, but I did buy the alternator at Autozone.

I think this design is the same as used on Chrysler; may be the same parts.

I'm going to take your advice and take both the alternator and regulator to Autozone and see if they can get me a matched setup. If not, I'll try a few more parts stores. If that don't work then I'll just pay the money to have the alternator rebuilt. Will cost more but at least it will hook back up the same way without trying to rig up something that may not be reliable.

Just as an update:

These pictures show my old alternator. I originally ordered an alternator for a 1972 Nissan 510, but when it came in, the wire connections did not match.

I tried another autoparts store and this one looked correct. It was $50 and matches up perfectly and made by Hitachi (as the original was). It's been on the tractor for several days now and is working as expected. I also used a 39 - 1/2 inch belt. A 40 inch would've been fine also.

Thanks, Keith

I haven't had a chance to take mine off and take to a parts store yet. Been using the tractor since I got it back together. What is the model and year that alternator is from? I may just go ahead and get one and hope I can find the plug for the back of it. My alternator doesn't have the plug, just the 4 wires.
