I have heard drag type with hydraulic lift work the best, I have two 1 acre plots and two 1/2 to 3/4 plots in tight areas so I figure a 7.5 3pt
I think 8 ft would be a little small for your tractor. I pull a 10 wheel disk with a 48 hp 4x4. I think a wheel disk is the only way to go with what ever size you decide on. Just my 2cents.
When I was looking for a disc, I got Disc-gusted. Sorry for the pun. I did get tired of traveling all over the place to just get real disspointed in the wore out junk people were trying to sell angle iron frame disc's for 1/2-3/4 of new. I finally just went our local WesternWear/Tractor Parts Store and bought a new Kingkutter 6-1/2' box frame and never looked back. It was a $900 purchase 6 years ago but it's been a good strudy disc. There's just no deals on disc's here in the Pacific Northwest. I wish you luck, in your search, though, but keep KK in mind they're a decent value. I'm not a KK salesman, but have had decent luck with their products. bjr
Depends on the disc type. With a 3-point, his tractor is way undersized for an 8-footer, but could easily handle a 10 foot pull-type. Pull-types are a good bit more effective at using available hp to get the job done. They maintain better soil contact with all sections, requireing significantly less weight per disc to achieve faster results. A heavier 3-point will work some spots extra deep and not even touch others, typically requiring several more passes than the lighter pull-type, in multiple directions, to properly prepare a seedbed. This makes the average 3-point require 2x or more the fuel to get the same job done. The 3-point does more work total, hence the extra hp and fuel needed, but a lot of that work aint good work (working some spots extra deep). Once you get over a couple acres in size, the pull-type is probably the way to go.
