looking for a disk 7 o8 8 foot disk for an L4400 45 hrs power 4x4 tractor southern ny area. anyone know of one? thanks

What kind of disc--Tandem? Offset? 3pt disc? Wheel disc? Drag disc?

When I was looking for a disc, I got Disc-gusted. Sorry for the pun. I did get tired of traveling all over the place to just get real disspointed in the wore out junk people were trying to sell angle iron frame disc's for 1/2-3/4 of new. I finally just went our local WesternWear/Tractor Parts Store and bought a new Kingkutter 6-1/2' box frame and never looked back. It was a $900 purchase 6 years ago but it's been a good strudy disc. There's just no deals on disc's here in the Pacific Northwest. I wish you luck, in your search, though, but keep KK in mind they're a decent value. I'm not a KK salesman, but have had decent luck with their products. bjr

We had a International Harvester 8 foot #37 wheel disc just came in last week. It is on sealed roller bearings and does have scrappers. No welds, straight as a string. We will put 2 new blades on it and paint it and apply new decals and pricing will be $1575 with New Hydraulic Cyl and Hoses picked up here in Ky about 1 hr. south of Louisville, Ky on I-65. I have heard drag type with hydraulic lift work the best, I have two 1 acre plots and two 1/2 to 3/4 plots in tight areas so I figure a 7.5 3pt

We have a Allis Chalmers 8 ft lift disc (shown below) that is on roller bearings and has scrappers for $895 + shipping. Could use a coat of paint. Ken Sweet

I think 8 ft would be a little small for your tractor. I pull a 10 wheel disk with a 48 hp 4x4. I think a wheel disk is the only way to go with what ever size you decide on. Just my 2cents.

I was thinking it was a little big for his tractor. Differing opinions abound.

Depends on the disc type. With a 3-point, his tractor is way undersized for an 8-footer, but could easily handle a 10 foot pull-type. Pull-types are a good bit more effective at using available hp to get the job done. They maintain better soil contact with all sections, requireing significantly less weight per disc to achieve faster results. A heavier 3-point will work some spots extra deep and not even touch others, typically requiring several more passes than the lighter pull-type, in multiple directions, to properly prepare a seedbed. This makes the average 3-point require 2x or more the fuel to get the same job done. The 3-point does more work total, hence the extra hp and fuel needed, but a lot of that work aint good work (working some spots extra deep). Once you get over a couple acres in size, the pull-type is probably the way to go.

My experience precisely. Blame it deer food plotters? I dunno.

I'm too far away for you, but I have a 7-1/2' John Deere 3-pt that I used with my 58-520 JD (34 HP) for sale at $550! It has approx. 1" x 4" chip out of one blade & the spring that cushions it when lifted is broken, otherwise it is in very good condition.

i bought my 4 ft adjustable double gang 12 disk harrow ( i know its small, i have a yanmar) for $200 its a heavier than Leinbach angle disk with roller bearing with no slop. These i see for the cheapest of $250 but most are 350 or so. A new Leinbach is around $500 or so and not as good as the LMC that i bought.

Yep around here its the deer hunter that keep prices high. I bought it from one and i am one. The same is true for smaller compacts they bring similar money to a larger tractor. IE you can buy a 40+ hp 30-40 yr old american JD or Ford or MF for what some of the 30 year old compacts sell for, reason i cant hook my trailer up to my truck and easily haul around a ford 3000 or JD 1020 with my 30 year old hunting truck they just weigh to darn much.

If NE Ohio isn't too far for you, I have a super nice Massey Ferguson #25 three point I may part with. It is the 7.5' model with a few new parts on it. These are adjustable from the seat for the front and rear gangs independtly. The only reason I am thinking of selling it is a rototiller seems like a better option for the small amount of land I work. I also have an old Dunham pull behind that I can use if I need a disc. Shoot me a PM if you need more details.

The 25 Massey and the JD disc mentioned above are both great discs. If it were not for the distance factor and transportation costs, I would like to have both of them. Ken Sweet

It would have to be a really light 10' disc. I just don't see a 45 eng. HP compact tractor pulling a 10' disc very effectively. If you 've got very heavy soil at all, I don't beleive it would pull it well enough simply b/c of weight. Now a 45 HP utility tractor, for example New Hollands new Workmaster series from 45 - 75 HP would probably do the trick. More weight, better gearing, etc.

This is just based off of my experience.

IF you get something like my 8 foot J Bar disc you will have all you want with a 45 Hp tractor. It weighs 890 lbs. without the 10 feet of railroad track.

Oh and I gave $500 for it because the guy that had it had a 35Hp tractor and couldnt pull it. He just wanted enought to go by a 6 foot at Tractor Supply. I almost didnt get it off the trailer with my FEL. I had to use the curl to pick it up enough to clear the trailer. I only had to walk it about 10 feet, but the rear tires were coming off the ground.

well fathers day weekend i will be pulling a borrowed 10' pull behind disk, after seeing the results I will be able to decide on a 3pt or pull type and 6, 8, or 10 foot thanks for the reply's. I wish I was closer to someone with a disk for rent or pay them to disk

A thought, go talk a neighbour into borrowing their disk, and see how that works on an acre or so ... will give you an idea of what fits nice based on your land and your tractor
