When I work with brush, branches etc I use the
thumb on my backhoe and can also pickup
logs with it also but thats because I already have
the backhoe and just made it more useful with
the thumb

I considered the MTL but went with the Homestead Implements about a couple years ago. Haven't looked at the web site recently but when I bought mine they offered free shipping and a 10% discount for veterans. I haven't found a flaw yet with mine.

I liked the look of the Landpride models but found an 8 month wait. I fabbed on up instead

Very nice!! A little heavy for what I want, I wish I had some welding skills it would be fun to fab that up.

Mine is a Land Pride 1560. 60" wide - 820 pounds of A400 steel.

It's been a real jewel the nine years I've owned it. Land Pride does make lighter models.

Mine was in the dealers lot. So.....zero wait time.

Other things to consider -
- activation method for the grapple. I have the WR Long 3rd
function system.
- upgrading your grill guard. Limbs, sticks & stobs have a very nasty way of finding your grill, radiator & battery.
- rear counter weight. I have 1550 pounds of RimGuard in the
rear tires and a 1000 pound rear blade on the 3-point.

I have the 72" W.R. Long Open Bottom Grapple OBG-1, it weighs 685 pounds. The OBG-2 series is the lighter weight grapple, the 56" is 460 pounds. One thing to consider is the type of grapple, my OBG-1 has long tines on the bottom. The root rake style has shorter bottom tines, more of a clamshell design. Weight is comparable.

I like mine for being able to carry logs but there is a technique and learning curve to be effective.

I have an iron clad Brushhog and am very impressed with it.
