"Brown" rotary cutters are VERY good, also very expensive...

"Woods" Med and HD rotary cutters are also VERY good and absolutely my second choice, and also absolutely what I am going to buy! I just don't need a rotary cutter as HD as the Brown are...

IF you want a rotary cutter that will taking a beating and last, then you better look at Woods...

Absolutely Woods is my recommendation above all others.

I have a BB 720 that I have had for 10 years and it has been used on some very tough stuff and I heartily recommend it.
Stay away from the 2 digit (BB72) ones they are probably too light. With your size machine, the four digit (BB7200) are more than you need. Size as to BB 600 or BB 720 is your choice.
With your hp you might want to go 60 inch. (BB600)

tangoddess, before you buy a new rough cut mower, are you sure the condition of the mower you already own? The comments on it sounded like it needs some new blades and maybe some repairs but that can be normal in their life. Normally it takes large tools on them and some muscle. If you need to take it to a tractor garage to at least look at it for what is wrong and what it will cost if repairable.

Also you need to consider what you will be cutting when you consider the size of a cutter. Would even recommend you do some watching videos on youtube on repairing a mower and using one. Be safe for a rough cut mower can be dangerous they have the ability to throw a rock, piece of metal or wood many feet with a lot of force. Not something you run with people standing near you.

Since you are in Texas I'd also consider the Ag Meier Mohawk rotary mowers. They are locally built in Texas and less expensive than some of the name brands. I have one and so far have been quite pleased with it. Here is a link to their website Bronco Rotary Cutters

Lots of good ones, but some can get pricey. I think Titan is not a bad pick. Neighbor just got a 6 foot model for about $900. It looks to be pretty well made. Everything Attachments is making a good looking unit for a fair price. They have a great reputation. Woods,Bushog,Brown are great and will last you a lifetime, but cost at least double, maybe more. Used is an option. They are not plentiful, but good ones do exist. Not a lot to go wrong with a cutter. If it is not bent up and leaking oil, you are probably good.

I scored my Brown for $1150 off Craigslist. Had to drive 160 miles one way to get it. I was lucky.

If you get a new one a 6' is the perfect size for your tractor, I have the same tractor. 7' likely too heavy and to much for heavy cutting on a 3930. A 7' also will be wider than the rear wheels and catch on trees, posts etc whereas the 6' is just right. I agree with others though, it takes a lot to kill a bushhog beyond repair. As long as the deck isn't rotted out and the gearbox fried they can be brought back to good shape fairly cheaply. Tractor Supply or any tractor place will have blades. a JD dealer can get anything specific to your current cutter or you can even search and order the parts online.

I'm very happy with my "Bush Hog". The inventor of the original bush hog that everyone now copies. Takes a 'lickin' an keeps on tickin.

Dont think just because its a bush hog brand makes it a HD cutter. Well built and respected brand maybe but all cutters arent HD. Bush hog, LP and Deere all have some light duty cutters in their line up.

I learned that when I bought my new L4600 and was looking for a cutter. Id never gotten too deep into rotary cutters. We had always used the cheapest beat up used ones around. But when I bought my new tractor Im the type that wants to buy once, cry once and wanted something HD to last me a long time. Like 30 years long time.
I started researching and looked into Bush hog razorback cutters. 6 ft had a good price and most of the dealers kept them in stock but when researching found its only rated to cut 1" material and weighs 577#.
Compared it to land pride RCR 1872 which is rated at 2" cut capacity and weighs 737#.

Weight and cutting capacity is the first thing I look at on rotary cutters now. 2nd is the way the 3 pt hitch is made for the lower arms to hook too. Is it regular ole pins sticking out for the arms to slide over and pin off, or does it have the boxed "captured type" pin that you pull out and slide back into the lower arm.

Lots of variables on cutters of all brands.
