need a new well drilled-need info.

we got qouted 5620.00[includes tax]for a 75-100ft well/screen??/[3/4]hp pump/85 gal holding tank/water testing.seems we would want more h.p.on pump and a bigger holding tank?? what else might we want besides a fire hydrant??

I don't know about more hp. Both my wells had 1/2 hp pumps. You could look at some pumps and flowrates vs hp for different depths. WW Graingers is a good place to look at pumps for this. Consider how much amperage you'll have to supply too. As far as holding tank size, I don't think you can have too much. A bigger tank will mean your pump doesn't have to cycle on and off as much.

3/4 hp is more than enough. My well pump is 360 ft down and the pump is a 3/4 hp. Never had a problem.

At our house NE of Duvall Wa we have a 300 gallon storage tank and about 30 gallons in the pressure tank. Now we don't have livestock or a field to water, that's just for household usage. We haven't had any problems with not having enough water, except when the power goes out and won't run the pressure tank pump (have to get that on the generator...)

Your pump size and capacity will depend on a combination of the well depth and gallons per minute that the well produces. I have a 500' well that produces about 35 gpm. They put a 25 gpm pump at 400' in the hole. It is 5 horsepower and runs on 240 volts. My neigbor has the same depth well but his only produces about 7 gpm, and he only has a 1.5 HP pump.

My well was about $14,000 turnkey, including everything.

( I had a 450' well done a couple years ago. Price with the holding tank installed, 5 hp pump, and one hydrant was $9500. )

I have a 1 1/2 h.p. Gould submersible in a 500' deep well in 8" casing.Another 125' to my 2 story house.

How big of a volume of water are you moving (just curious) is this some type of jet pump ??

Alan, I remember when the driller passed 500' at my Dad's place he told 'em to quit drillin' for water, 'cause only oil could pay the bill. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I've got less than 5 gpm, but it comes up to 80 foot from the top of my 320' well. Took around a half hour to flush it through a 5/8" hose.

The tank in my house is either around a 30 or 45 gallon Well-X-trol (the blue one).

You can get submersible pump info from the Goulds website. The residential submersible pumps are the 5G or 7G line and they have some interesting graphs that help in determining which pump to select based on depth and desired flow rate.

My well is down 360 or so feet. The recovery rate is only a couple of gallons per minute but the static level is almost to the top of the casing. With a 6 inch hole that gives over 500 gallons of reserve not counting any underground cavities that fill with water. After 25 years we have raised 3 boys who took lots of showers and did plenty of laundry and we never ran out or water.

However, here in New England we got a lot of granite which contains plenty of iron. My water comes up crimson red and has to be filtered. This causes havoc with the impellers on submersible pumps. My top of the line Goulds pump typically has lasted only 7-8 years before needing to be replaced. Cost to replace is about $1100 which includes labor.
