Tiller Need a tiller for my NhTC24DA

   / Need a tiller for my NhTC24DA #21
I have a Taylor Way (also sold as Taylor Pittsburgh) Kiperts in Tumwater Wa. carries them. Solid, heavy, gear driven rather than chain with six tines per wheel. Built in the USA. I don't know how they stack up price wise with the other makes.
It's been a rock solid unit so far, I've turned under waist high rye cover crop, corn stalks and broken pasture sod with it. I get a little bit of stuff wrapped around the axle outside of the outer most wheels but nothing on the inside wheels. Mines a 60" with 29 HP at the PTO.

You might contact this Guy in Creswell , Or. . My brother has a 6' Backhoe and a 59" tiller from Him .

Flail Mower, Backhoe items in Betst store on eBay!

Both are used on a J.D. 3030 gear drive . Tiller is a Flipping Beast . Several neighbors have commented on that the garden area looks better than it ever has before . Bro got both on sale real early last spring , total price for both was like $4,100 . Yea , Sure , They are imported , But seem to be rock solid . We tilled up the entire lawn area of my Moms place after installing a irrigation system . Ground had not been touched in over 50 years . Other than Your's truly getting stuck raking out rocks and old tree roots , It was pretty cool . Course Bro is not thinking that to much . He is Stuck mowing the new lawn and has been all Winter

I found a dealer to sell me a tiller. Now the question is should I go with a forward or a reverse tine tiller? My soil is mostly sand and gravel. With some clay and very few rocks. And those rocks are rarely over softball size.

I would say I do a good amount of tilling. I was pretty set on a reverse spin when I went to get another one. Essentially all the reviews say they are better. They will do a better job with less passes. Well time is money so I figured thats the way to go.

As I spoke with my dealer who stated he would sell me one without issue, he talked me out of one.

He said this; If you are tilling random places which you are uncertain of the ground, you could kick up rocks and break out your rear cab glass (or if open station hit the operator).

He said if you're only doing your private garden that clean it will do a better job faster but truthfully what's a couple extra minutes for your personal garden etc....

So I chewed on that for a day and since I was very satisfied with my original tiller, I just bought another forward tine.

Now I've never owned or used a reverse tine, but this is my $.02 forwarded from my dealer and what I ultimately purchased. Happy tilling

I think your dealer was full of "it". Reverse spin tillers don't spin fast enough to do any damage your dealer described. The 2 biggest draw backs of them are - They don't incorporate thick mulch very well and they need a lot more HP. I have had 2 land pride reverse spin tillers for several years.

Hey, your experience is better than mine as I have none with reverse tine

Now my thought would be the rubber flap would be enough to change the trajectory but he was insistent.(I believe it was rubber anyhow) I don't think he'd talk himself out of a sale. Plus, he's the one that gets to sell more bottom glass when guys break it. Now I also recall him saying softball size rocks as well. As far as speed there is plenty. If I leave my rear door open, it has the potential to throw some rocks a few feet.

Good point on The HP, I did also hear they require more ponies.

Again, I'm just passing my dealers opinion and experience as well as my opinion with front rotation ....

With that said, I use other implements with reverse rotation with no issue that spin really fast.

Going slower with a wider tiller is better than faster with a narrow one. Just make sure it covers your tracks by a few inches.

I disagree, you wind up pulverizing the soil and loose all of its structure.

Rent a reverse before you buy. I did and hated the dust and rocks being thrown forwarded into the drive line. As for ricks they are thrown forward and hit again and aging. My forward tine one kicks them out the back to be picked up by hand before the next pass.

I am going to take the advice of many and go with a forward tine tiller. I know it will work for what I want. Thank you for all the input.
