If you have size 13 feet that hydro pedal gets pretty small. Here we go again. Gear vs Hydro. They both have their advantages. I like my GST though. Thats why i bought it....

Hello:

This is my first post but I would like to thank everyone in here for the info they have provided in other posts....it has been very useful.

OK, I need some advice. I am purchasing a new tractor and have narrowed it down to 2, JD2720 and JD 3520. The 3520 is not a hydro while the 2720 is. I have never driven a substantial tractor (outside of a garden tractor) without a hydro. However, the dealer is offering me a pretty good deal to get it out of his dealership (about 20% off list including implements...the difference is about $3500 between the 2720 and 3520) so I am tempted considering the upgrade in power/tractor over the 2720.

My question is, how hard will it be to learn to use the power reverser gear tractor? Is there anyone in here that recently learned to use a gear tractor and if so, how has it gone?

You won't have any trouble with the gear tractor or reverser as far as learning to use it. You ought to give the hydro a test drive. There is a big difference between hydro and gear.

Trying to not let this deterioate into another Gear / Hydro thread.

This one is slightly different though.

My dozer was a power reverser, super nice set up. In my humble opinion a power reverser gives you the best of both worlds.

Power of a gear, with reversing ability of hydro (which is really one of its biggest advantages).

Under full disclosure though, a hydraulic reverser is not something you want to have let go. They get a whole lot of use and there's a lot of moving, hydraulically actuated parts in there.

But I would not go in with the worst in mind.

Good luck,
Joel

If you're missing your left hand, go with the HST.
If you're missing your left leg, go with the power reverser.

I have a 3520 Power Reverser. Switching from forward to reverse, is pretty simple. Just move the lever next to the steering wheel. No clutching necessary. Keep in mind with the 3520 PR, there is a throttle by your right foot which can use to increase your RPMs, in addition to the hand throttle.

My vote is for the 3520.
