I have 8 acres of steep terain at 8500 ft. msl. We get lots of snow. Dumps of 2+ ft at least once/year.
My tractor will live outside for the time being. Here are my questions: 1) Are there tire chains available
for Kubota tractors (front and rear)? 2) Are there wheel weights available or do folks just fill the tires
with some liquid? 3) Are there cold weather starting problems? I have no grass (yeah!!). I will be using
the tractor for snow removal, log splitting, log towing, dirt moving/digging and lifting of 500+ lbs. There are lots of trees to manuever around. Don't forget that I don't have the same horsepower as you
flatlanders down there. Any model suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

RockyMountain1,

Yes, several of the forum members use chains for both snow and at times for working in the woods. Clearance can be an issue with some models so you will want to check on that.

Yes to both. You can get wheel weights although they can be pricey and many of us fill the tires with liquid.
3) Are there cold weather starting problems? Kubota's are great cold weather starters and an engine block heater is offered as an option.

I would take a look at the B2910 which is the largest of the B line of tractors. It would be small enough for your tight situations and the 29 hp should work for your elevation. Great part of the country you live in.

I agree with most of what Mark said, but living in snow country myself (my neighbor is a ski resort) and doing a lot of log hauling (my only source of heat is a woodstove), I'd opt for a Grande L series tractor, probably an L3710 since it has pretty much the same weight but a lot more power. The larger B series (2910) with their low weight tend to be better climbers, but lack the mass for serious log hauling IMO. I have an L3010 which is great for my needs, but between the weight and the altitude you'd notice the power loss.

Sheesh, I'm rambling! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
