I need a combo to mow about 7 acres of what is best described as rocky pasture. This will be my first tractor purchase, so I am definitely a newbie. Two questions-

- I am looking at a a 1989 B7200 4 WD with hydrostatic drive that has a finish mower (for the lawn) and that I could attach a bushhog to for the fields. It has over 7000 hours- is
$ 5,900 a good price?

- This model is a 17HP diesel, will it adequately handle a bush hog attachment?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I have a B7300 16hp and run a 4 ft. brushhog without any problems. I'm sure that tractor would do fine with a 4ft. hog. The price seems really high to me. I think you could do much better.

I sold a 1994 B7100HST 16 HP 4WD with FEL and bush hog with 1,100 hours on it for $5,500 last November and felt it was a fair price for both me and the buyer. It was in excellent condition.

EDIT: I missed the part about 7 acres. A 7200 will not pull anything over a 4' bush hog very well and it will take a loooong time to mow 7 acres with a 4' bushhog.

7 Acres (304,929 square feet) could be roughly 500' X 600' (300,000 square feet). If you used a 4' bush hog you would probably cut 3.5' on each pass. Assuming it was flat and treeless you would need to make at least 142 trips 600' (142 X 3.5' = 497') long to mow it with a 4' bush hog. Just thinking about that wears me out!

7 acres with a 4' bushhog will make for long hours mowing. I would look for something that will pull a 5 or 6' bushhog. I have a 7 acre pasture and I trading my L2850 for a L5030 50hp with a 6' bushhog for the road and rough areas and RM990 7 1/2' finish mower for the pasture.... I just don't want to spend that many hours mowing...

Get-r-done................

And I think the price is too high. 7000 hours is a lot of hours. Could be as much as 70% of engine life..... Check new prices at the dealer, that will give you a benchmark.

Good luck,,,,

With my 5030, I can bush hog anything I can push over with the loader. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Sometimes my 6' bush hog is flinging out lumber it seems. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Other than when I've jambed it into the ground (oops!), I've never had my 6' bush hog ever even begin to bog down my 5030.

I guess I could also tell you about the deal I got. I wouldn't expect to get such a good deal again... but it pays to shop around.

Last year I bought a '99 B7300, HST, FEL, 4WD, Boxblade, 290 hrs, great condition for $4800. That was a great deal... but it kind of puts your price in perspective.
