Need battery information

Go ahead and lambast me, I left the key switch on my Foreman 450 turned to "ON" for a few days after plowing snow, so of course it is dead battery time. It's just out of the 90 day warranty period...of course. I removed it and took it downstairs to warm up and it still won't take a charge.

From what I have read elsewhere, these sealed AGM batteries can be deep discharged and readily accept a new charge, however, this is the second one of it's type (Champion, purchased at TSC) that has failed to take a charge after being discharged ONCE.

Does anyone have an idea of how to get this battery working again, and failing that, what brand of replacement battery would you recommend? Thanks.

I have always bought atv batteries that come dry and you have to fill them. If you do this make sure you fill the battery and let it sit for a day before putting a trickle charger on it. Letting them sit for awhile lets the acid soak in to the plates. The slower the charge the better. I have found that if you fill it and charge it right away you get the problem you are having. But you said your batteries have been sealed so I asume they came ready to use. I would not do this because when you buy the dry and fill them yourself they are really fresh.....never can tell how old that battery has been sitting around on the shelf.

Good point there, I should have said that the battery came dry and I filled it with acid, I also gave it a slow charge as you mentioned, a 2 amp charge for 5-6 hours. That is what irrirates me, the battery was fresh and charged properly and now it is useless. I doubt if I am going to buy another of this brand.

While reading up on AGM batteries I found one item that seems to be a concern with them. Charging with too high a voltage can cause failure.

A couple of years ago, the driver that services the battery rack at our Motorcycle shop told all of us working there that if we deep charged a new battery for 24 hours at 2 amp before putting them into service that we would have a better/longer lasting battery...we were only using 4-5 hours....seems to be working...we were replacing way too many batteries at 12 months...now we are seeing a lot fewer being returned and/or having problems...

Those HD scooters can be pretty hard on a battery!!
