Need bigtime help on trailer decision

I wish the world was black & white like the manuals you are reading. I have done what you are doing & I would go with a gooseneck & at least a 30' lenght. As for what I hauled was a M5400 8' disk & 8' notill drill & some times a 500 gal tank & sprayer with atv instead of the disk. All pulled with a dodge 2500 diesel, which did fine with it over all. Now that I have a one ton dually I would say no issues ever other than mud. Most of the habitat guys in this area use 60-80hp tractors & notill drills with RTV spray rigs on the front of the trailer. Most of them use F350 4x4 drw standard cabs, with 30' or 35' trailers, that have 2 12k axles.

Remeber when doing this stuff you will always need more than can fit on a semi, even though all you have is a truck, best of luck try your truck with the biggest trailer in the budget & upgrade trucks next year if you have to.

Just a quick thought: you can ditch that class 3 reciever and get the class 5 for less than the weight distribution hitch, then you are good to tow any trailer within that weight class. You dont need a WDH, just load the trailer correctly. That means, don't shove everything up to the front until your bumper is dragging the ground.

FarmWithJunk,

I was guessing to the high side. Thanks for the more accurate numbers. Was I right on the 6' chisel plow at 1,000lbs and the six foot disc weighing 1,000lbs.?

Maybe, maybe not. You'll find a few 6' mounted disc's that weigh less, many that weigh more. As far as a "chisel plow", that depends on what you refer to as a chisel plow. If we're talking a field cultivator maybe a good bit less. a TRUE chisel plow, possibly a LOT more. 1000lb should be a good average though.

I have the extended cab 4x4. Thanks to all for your replys! Quite an education here.

I figured it had to be a ext. or crew cab. I don't think you can get a short bed reg. cab.
