I wish the world was black & white like the manuals you are reading. I have done what you are doing & I would go with a gooseneck & at least a 30' lenght. As for what I hauled was a M5400 8' disk & 8' notill drill & some times a 500 gal tank & sprayer with atv instead of the disk. All pulled with a dodge 2500 diesel, which did fine with it over all. Now that I have a one ton dually I would say no issues ever other than mud. Most of the habitat guys in this area use 60-80hp tractors & notill drills with RTV spray rigs on the front of the trailer. Most of them use F350 4x4 drw standard cabs, with 30' or 35' trailers, that have 2 12k axles.
Remeber when doing this stuff you will always need more than can fit on a semi, even though all you have is a truck, best of luck try your truck with the biggest trailer in the budget & upgrade trucks next year if you have to.
