But as those threads start....the "popular" answers were "incorrect" answers.

And there's no way for the system to correct that so five years after when somebody does a search and see those 'popular' posts, what will they do? Believe them to be correct, or read the rest of the thread to see how wrong they were?

Some good points made for not adding features.
Valid commentary that was helpful.

As I said in post #1 of this thread, I think an "Agree" function or something like that would be nice to have. Handy. Something I would use when I noticed a post or comment that I thought was particularly good, yet one where I had nothing further to say and preferred not to clutter the thread with yet another post.

Ideally, there would be a mechanism for new features to be proposed (there is NOT, in fact the TBN 'powers that be' act like it is frozen forever and handed down on a stone tablet, no changes ever possible and no way to suggest them) and a mechanism to vote (there is not.)

Somewhat of a shame that there has not been (and will not be) comment from the majority of TBN forum users. There's no mechanism to support that. My suggestion was not worthy of a "constitutional convention" level of upheaval in the first place. To me it was just a nice-to-have.

This topic gets brought up at least a couple times a year and is always shot down by sage members and rightfully so...
Message boards are not popularity contests (although some seem to think they are)...quality posts get recognized plenty well enough...TBN is not elementary school where gold stars get handed out like M&M's for good behavior...

millennials and face book etc. addicts are always looking for instant approval etc...IMO TBN is much closer to the real world where most contributors are not looking for a pat on the back or butt...!

Excellent! Almost my take on this subject exactly. Only you worded it better than I would have.

And for those who want a "like button", why not a "dislike" button to go along with it?
Although as I already expressed, there is no need for either and would serve no valuable purpose in this forum.

My initial thought was yeah, nice to have a like button... but the more I thought about it and reading potential cons, I vote no on the idea.

One feature, that I thought was interesting in another forum was the ability to create and post an 'opinion poll' and allow responders to vote if they wanted and also reply. Once you voted, you would see the results of the ongoing tally.

Don't know if polls have a place on TBN or would be appreciated (was going to say 'liked'). :D

I put a like button right beside a thank you button. No use for either.

Only way as an owner of a site would I want anything like this is if it racks up post count that I can pimp advertisers with.

Polls can be added if needed to a particular topic, see the one on this thread.

I see that now at the top of the thread, above all the posts. However, I was the 4th voter (!) so it is either awfully new or represents very little. Wonder who put that poll there ? There was no mechanism for us peons to do so was there ?

Last I checked and saw: "Voters 4. You have already voted on this poll", yet there were 8 votes cast..........

Just proves polls can be deceiving.

Well of course, it sure would be nice if the poll limited one vote per username, otherwise it will be abused like most things. Some people just can't help themselves.

There is a way to get new features added - suggest in the News/feedback section like you did.

Newbury said: There is a way to get new features added - suggest in the News/feedback section like you did.

That being the case, have they said so or documented that somewhere ? How does one find out these things? Will I get feedback from "them" at some point ? What happens next ?

Or is it a TBN monitor who just checks once in a while to see how much of a buzz was raised by the item via responding posts ?

So far this is all vague and "maybe." Hopefully you (Newbury) know how all this works.

More on the Poll in progress at the top... percentages add up to about 157%. :confused3:

The TBN forums badly need a "like" function -- some way to register enthusiastic agreement with a particular Post. It should NOT require a full fresh post taking up all that real estate and wasting so much time and resource on everyone's part. I'm no designer but a BIG red checkmark appended by the commenting person's nickname -- inserted within the applauded Post -- for example √ JWR seems ideal and should be easy to implement. Why not ??? We could get fancier with "small, medium and large" checkmark choices. Like to indicate degrees of enthusiasm, etc. but I would be really happy with just one available. Many others have agreed this would be a useful feature.

 I suggested a long time ago.

Make the check mark function as a follow button so I could add the post to My Home without posting a reply.

You don’t have to reply to follow or subscribe to the thread. But I like the idea that if you give a thumbs up you would automatically be subscribed to the thread.

I’d like to see a thumbs up button as well as a thumbs down button for each post.

Click the "Report" button next to the post and request one, or coordinate with one of the moderators to have them add it.

That is an option, this one is setup as a multiple choice poll though. You can only vote once, but you can select more than one option.

Note the Poll on this thread is not about the thread topic. It's about a topic brought up later in the thread. Read the Poll question carefully so you don't mess up your vote like I did.

Yup, I messed it up.

I assumed it was about wanting a like button.
