I don't know why people are so against reducing the noxious exhaust. Who wants to breath that stuff?

The B2650 has 26-horsepower. It is fully Tier IV compliant, which means B2650 has a DPF.

The demarcation is 25-horsepower. Therefore models like Kubota's L2501 "cheater" have 24.8 horsepower.

BTW, I thought the limit was a bit over 26hp?

Kubota was first to figure out that pairing a large displacement (100 cubic inch) engine, tuned to produce just a tad under 25-horsepower at relatively low RPMs, in a 2,700 pound bare tractor package would sell in volume. The L2501 was an immediate success. Kubota was first with this combination, now every tractor trademark has a similar model; capitalism.

Tractors and utility vehicles with 25-horsepower diesel engines must be Tier IV emissions compliant in the USA. I am not able comment on the rules in New Zealand.

I'm buying the L2501 specifically because it's the heaviest unit I've found that skips DPF.

was initially looking B2650 until I realized how much heavier the L was. Also at least in the US the 2650 does not have the particulate filter.

Exactly. The 2650 does not have the DPF, nor does the 2601. So maybe the cutoff is anything >26hp?

And the L2501 is certainly heavier than the B2650, but the 2650 surprisingly has a longer wheelbase, tighter turn radius, more ground clearance, higher hydraulic flow and stronger 3-point lift capacity. But the weight can sometimes make all the difference in the world based on your specific projects.

Kubota specifically state B2650 is Tier IV compliant so somehow the engine meets that requirement with small engine emission technology not requiring a DPF. I am going to ask my Kubota dealer about this, next visit.

B2650 engine is three cylinders, displacement 77.0 cubic inches.

Diesel engines with 25-horsepower or greater must be Tier IV emission compliant to be sold in the USA.

Jeffy,
Kubota stipulates several models meet emissions requirements W/O dpf. Mihindra and others do so w/ DOC. The 3 cylinder engines have been more successful in meeting the standards in higher hp output engines. The deere 5125r I use has no dpf. Don't know why you are confused, but then again........you have concerns over grammer and sentence structure.

Should I get front and rear hydraulics? Not going to need them right away but who knows about the future. Or is it something that is not a problem to add later?

Depends on the size of your wallet and skill at wrenching. Since you seem to want to buy new I'd suggest you invest in at least 2 rear remotes. If you think there is a grapple in your future than get another front one. If you are comfortable wrenching you can usually put together the parts for a slight savings.
Other small things are bucket hooks, LED lights, toolboxes etc.

The general consensus here is to get a bigger tractor than you think you’ll need. That opinion comes from the experience of many of us that already made that mistake, and ended up having to upgrade at some expense. You can include me in that list. The first tractor I bought, was a Ford 8n, it was the perfect tractor for my needs, at a reasonable price...Not!

For the size of your property, I would go with something in the 30-40 hp range. You should get over your disdain for emission controls, because that situation is going to get worse in the future, not better. There will be a time coming up when people will be relieved they bought a tier 4, before the the next layer of regulations comes.

As for mowing your lawn, you would be better off getting a dedicated mower of your choice, as tractors don’t treat a nice lawn well, and tall grass pastures don’t treat small tractors well
Not meaning to be harsh here, just passing on the fruits of my mistakes, hoping it will help you out.

I have a B2650 with a 72" MMM. I mow about 6 acres with it, and I have a few inclines, and it takes me about 3-3 1/2 hours to mow depending on how I do it. My point is that the 2650 will handle a 72" mower just fine.
