In the market
New to tractors and I dont know if this is a good roller or not or if it is a good deal or not? It is a pin hitch and weighs 400-450lbs. They are asking $150. We just purchased a JD 4300. Any feeback is appreciated. Thanks

Well, it's cheap and your tractor will handle it.
It doesn't look heavy though....
What are you going to use it for?

We want to use it for rolling seeds in our food plots. That's it.

Is it a good deal? Well, the answer depends on a few questions:

1. Does it roll, or is it badly rusted/siezed. Is there any place to grease the bearings?
2. Is it straight (unbent/undamaged)
3. Do you have any metal fabrication skills and a desire to build it yourself? A well casing filled with concrete will get you pretty close to that.
4. How badly do you *need* a roller?

To me, $150 seems a little steep, but then again I don't *need* a roller.

I don't know if it rolls or if its straight? It was posted on Craig's List and haven't talked with the owner yet but wanted to know if the asking price was even a good place to start. I was thinking if it was any good I would go down at look at it when we pick up our tractor because its not real close to where I live. I don't have any metal fabrication skills. I would like a roller to help roll seed with our food plots for this fall. I just have been told most people build rollers and not buy them. I do not have building skills. If its steep as far as price goes what's a good price for one?

For those of us not in TX, can you translate that to miles? :p

A few more thoughts on your questions...

If you're using this to flatten a seedbeed, there are black plastic lawn rollers (water fillable) that go for under $100.

Also, contact the CL poster just to let them know you're interested. It may already be sold, and this discussion is moot.

Anyway, good luck. :)

Well it South about 3 hours but I'm going south to pick up the tractor. It's about 50 miles out of the way and I dont know if the seller will meet me half way if I bought the item.

Where do you get black plastic lawn rollers?

I will look for CL posters name and see. Can't find his name how do I pm him?
