Check out TSC if you have one in your area.

I had a 4' plastic roller for a while, and I would not get a plastic one again for smoothing, the plastic just gives way to hard objects, and it got a large flat spot on it from sitting with water in it.

IMHO, a steel roller will serve you better. The TSC near me sells 4' and a 5' steel rollers.

They have a 3 foot steel one for $300... pretty steep.

Is it a good deal? Well, the answer depends on a few questions:

1. Does it roll, or is it badly rusted/siezed. Is there any place to grease the bearings?
2. Is it straight (unbent/undamaged)
3. Do you have any metal fabrication skills and a desire to build it yourself? A well casing filled with concrete will get you pretty close to that.
4. How badly do you *need* a roller?

Answers she gave me:

1. Yes, it rolls well
2. It isn't rusted or seized; it's all bare metal (has not ever been painted)
3. No grease fittings; it has dry bearings
4. Roller isn't bent or damaged; slight dent/bend in one of the braces on tongue

What are dry bearings?

400-450 lbs ain't exactly light.. :D

When it's spread over 8' it isn't exactly heavy for a roller either:D

CL is a free-for-all, sometimes 100 people respond, sometimes no one does.

Tell them you are interested and will consider giving them $100 for he rusty roller. Sometimes people are just "fishin" to get rid of unused items.

For rolling in seed it looks like a good one, at 8 feet wide you will cover a lot of square footage faster.

I don't like the small dia. 10" . I think I only saw a pipe brg. I think you will have trouble getting it to roll in fine tilled soil like a seed bed.

Afternoon Texas Oaks,
I agree with CFH, the diameter is too small IMHO especially in fine tilled soil !!! I would defintely look for a larger dia roller with more weight !
