Need help sizing and pricing a backhoe

I have a TC40 tractor and I am interested in adding a backhoe to it. I am interested in Different brands and a comparison of Quality and Pricing any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. P.S. is it nesseray to have a PTO driven hydrallic pump or will my tractors existing hydrallics be good enough?

I have a Bush Hog BH750 Backhoe on a TC33DA and am happy with it.; your existing hydraulics are fine. The Bush Hog is a bit heavier duty than the NH and is also cheaper. The BH750 is recommended for 25-50HP and the BH850 for 35-100... I can't speak for the BH850, but being at the bottom of the range would probably say the BH750 would be what you wanted... though HP has not really come into play for me... tractor weight (even with loaded wheels) has been the limiting factor.

I too have a Bush Hog 750. Mine is mounted on a TC30. I prefer the BH over the Woods for the dual swing cylinders over the chain setup.

The TC30 handles it just fine. It's plumbed into the tractor hydraulics. For the TC 40 I'd look at the BH 850 although the 750 would be fine.

There are fewer manufacturers than there are brands. The New Holland backhoes are made by SMC, which also makes SMC, Rhino, Schulte, and who knows how many other brands. I mention it because if you like the New Holland 758C but are price shopping, the SMC 85 and Rhino 85 backhoes appear to be identical, and may be available cheaper.

I bought a Rhino 75 for my TC33 last year and I like it. The only thing different between it and the NH 757 is the decals and price as it's made by the same folks who make the NH hoes. The 75 is a nice size on my 33 but on a larger tractor the 85 would most likely be the better choice.

That depends on what BH your getting. I have the Woods 9000 and it had dual swing cylinders.

You don't have to get a PTO pump. My L3130 has 8.3GPM and the PTO pump the dealer quoted was 9 GPM. Price wise it was a wash between adding a remote or goin with the PTO pump. This offers the advantage of using the remote for other things.

Your tractor would have more GPM I'm sure. The 9000 work but I'd probably look at the 1020 or the Brado units. The comparable Bradcos have a tad more power and reach. Unfortunatley they are all expensive.

Going back to the PTO pump....The advantage of the PTO pump would be if your going to run it on different tractors. That way your not mixing fluids. The other advantage would be using a higher GPM pump so you can run the tractor at lower RPM's.

For me to get resonable speed with simultaneous functions I need to run PTO+ speed. If I went with say a 15GPM pump I could run it at say 1700 RPM vs 2600. The tractor doesn't even know the BH is there its just a matter of getting enough flow.
