Need help with a 425 oil pump repair

Lost oil pressure. When I got into the engine the pump gear had no teeth (fiber). Got a new gear also fiber. The shaft the gear is fastened to has a spring and a steel ball, inside it, probably a relief valve. The spring seems to be tight in the shaft and when the pump cover plate is tightened down the gear locks up. I don't know if I need a shorter spring or a gasket under the plate. Also I was told the govenor gear has to timed with the cam shaft gear. How is this done? Oil filter screen looks good & clean.

I don't think there is any timing relationship between the oil pump and the governor gear. The info supplied by Joe should allow you to get a new pump installed correctly. It's been a few years since I did mine, but it was pretty straight forward. Screen orientation does make a difference. I do remember that. And I did fiddle with the pump assembly until the rotors moved freely.

Thanks for the help. After a closer look at the case and pump parts I was wasn't putting it togather correctly. Thanks for the picture, I have the C-D but it doesn't show much on the oil pump.
