THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!

After about 6 hours of frustration, Its the AMP METER that has gone bad....NEVER would have guessed this was the problem.

After numerous tests, a buddy of mine who is a mechanic/handyman/jack-of-all-trades came over and took a look at it. I can't really explain WHY its the amp meter, but he could if he was here!!

It wasn't getting connection inside the amp meter. I guess i'll get one from my Mahindra dealer one day this week. It'll probably have to be special ordered from Mahindra Headquarters though.

THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT. I GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.....I HONESTLY LOOSE SLEEP OVER SMALL PROBLEMS LIKE THIS!!

I ordered the new amp meter from my Mahindra dealer today. $30.00 plus tax and freight charges. As expected, its not in stock, which is not a problem for me. Its going to come from Mahindra to my door. Supposed to be here Monday or Tuesday. (IF we don't get the BIG FLOOD everyone is talking about around here!)

I asked my dealer if this was a common problem for my model tractor (the amp meter going bad)? He said that he believed this was the first time that he had ever heard of this.

I called Another Mahindra dealer, for a second opinion, and he said the same thing.

My buddy (the mechanic, handyman, jack-of-all-trades!) was just about to give up on it when he said, "Lets try one more thing".

I guess what im trying to say is that WE ALL learned something from this. Thats why I come to TBN for my tractor problems. Now the information can be passed on!

Please let us know when you get the new meter in if it does indeed fix the problem. I am not sure why not makeing connection through the ampmeter would cause a fuse to blow. If the amp meter is in series with the power to the master fuse not haveing a connection in it would be a reason for you to not get power but I am not sure how that could blow that fuse.

Yeah I know what you mean. I've had this tractor going on 2 years now. This is the first time this problem has occurred, BUT this is the second time the main fuse has blown.

I do know the amp meter is not any good. But I agree, I'm not sure why the main fuse blew out. I'll post back when I get the new amp meter in the tractor.

Most amp meters are shunt volt meters.

You can have 2 faileure modes.. 'open' and 'short'

open = no current flow.

Short = perhaps a short from the ammeter to ground ( case/chassie ).. perhaps a rubber grommet has died?

So, am I understanding correctly that JUST by replacing the amp meter, Ya'll are saying that my problem will not be fixed?? Boy I sure hope it will be.

I do know that when we by-passed the amp meter (touched the 2 wires together that connects to each side of the amp meter), everything worked perfectly just like it should. ALL the lights and flashers and everything came on- and stayed on untill I turned the switches off. No fuses blew out or anything abnormal occurred.

That leads me to believe the ampmeter failed in both modes.

That is.. it internall opened, and was shorted to ground. That makes sense. If the ammeter insulation died and allowed it to short to chassie.. it probably opened pretty quickly.. perhaps leaving 1 of the posts still common to the chassie.. thus your attempts to repair were met with more blown fuses..e tc.

If your bypass test functioned as you say.. then I am thinking that a new ammeter is all you need.. just make sure it has good insulating grommets.

Soundguy he said he touched the two wires together and everything worked. That would mean the amp meter is in line before all the power is distributed to everything else. He probably should check and see if the main fuse is before the ampmeter or after. If it is after the amp meter than he still has a problem. The dealer should be able to look at a wireing diagram and tell him.
